For those not yet initiated- I promise you have heard this synth before. Hitting the streets in the early 80′s, the OB-8 became the main synth for pretty much every big name on the scene- from Rush to McCartney to the Thompson Twins to The Police. Van Halen frequently discusses how the OB-8 was his main synth for VH’s keyboard-driven songs- including the synth-based ’1984′. Those classic 80′s synth tones you hear in your head were probably performed on an OB-8. Featuring 61 keys, 8 voice polyphony, 2 VCO’s per voice, and 2 or 4 pole VCF filter, 8 voice panner, and an 8 note arpeggiator- there are very few sounds out of the OB-8′s reach. For something coming up on 29 years old, its hard to believe how clean it is. Hardly any dust has collected upon it.

Very nice physical shape as seen. the Unit powers on and lights up. It seems to be mostly functioning correctly. a few of the keys are hesitant like the contacts need cleaning. I do not have the knowlege to test every single function of the synth. the 3 buttons in the 7th pic noise on, pole, kbd track do not light up. there is a grounding hum – I am pretty sure it is a grounding hum because you can hear it through the amp with the unit turned off. this synth will need some servicing so I will have to sell it AS-IS but I guaranteed ot to be as described and will power on and make synth sounds.” Link

“Here we have an all original Oberheim OB8 with factory midi and original manual in excellent condition. It is a one owner instrument and has been home studio kept since it was purchased in the mid 80′s. As you can see from the pictures it has been very well taken care of. Everything functions exactly like it should. It will be ready to record or tour right out of the box.
The OB8 is my favorite Oberheim synth or classic analog poly synth for that matter. To me it is the OB8 that embodies the 80′s, it has a BIG, larger than life, high fidelity sound that cannot be mistaken. Some have criticized it for not being “dirty” enough. I think these people are missing the point. The 70′s was all about “dirt” the 80′s was the era of the Fairlight, Synclavier, and PPG wave. Synth sounds and music in general where moving in a different direction by 1980. If you listen to the Edgar Winter song Frankenstein, it’s a great example of some “dirty” sounds. If you want that sound then I would recommend an ARP 2600. If you listen to Van Halen’s 1984, MJ’sThriller, or Herbie Hancock’s Future Shock they all have a certain 80′s flair that brought synthesis out of the mud of the 70′s and into the neon sound pallet of the 80′s. The sounds of the OB8 are MASSIVE without being muddy. Don’t get me wrong, I love an arp 2600 but it sounds unmistakably 70′s. For an example, listen to the intro to the Ozzy Osbourne song Mr. Crowley. When I am in a big 80′s analog mood I always reach for an OB8 (yes I have more than one) The OB8 was one of the few analog synths I held onto and used along side my Yamaha DX1, Fairlight, and DK Synergy. I absolutely love it and feel whoever gets this one will love it to. ” Link
“A friend of mine and I share a common interest….we collect vintage synths. I have been selling some of mine over the last year and now he would like me to help him sell some of his. We are people not a corporation. If you are the type to bid and not pay then please refrain from that activity. That kind of thing is just not funny in this economy.
What we have here is the Oberheim OB-8, a true analogue gem. I see hundreds of synths caled “classic” or “vintage”. This one lives up to those words. I put this synth in the class of the Jupiter 8, the Prophet T-8, and the Memorymoog. You can see Paul Schaeffer playing one on the Letterman show to this day.
It is in great cosmetic condition with the exception of some tape on the right side panel(picture 3). I have pressed every button and played every key. I have scrolled through the programs and altered one to check functionality. To the absolute best of my knowledge there is no issue with any of the control functions. I checked the stereo outputs on the back but not all the other inputs and outputs. That will be up to you, as will testing of the midi functions. That’s right. This OB-8 has the retrofit midi(2nd picture). Also included is the Vintage Synth OB-8 rescue tape to reset it to factory values should you choose to do so.
This is, of course, an “as is” auction due to this synth’s age and collector value. No returns for any reason.” Link

“You are bidding a gem!! This is a Vintage Oberheim OB-8 Synthesizer. It is in excellent condition! There are a fair amount of scratches on the bottom, but the cabinet is in really good shape. Some nicks and wear here and there, but for the most part, for it’s age, it is in really great shape. All 8 Oscillators work, #2 is currently out of tune, but if you know anything about these keyboards, this is a normal thing on them. The board will likely need to be re-tuned once it arrives to it’s new home (again, it is the nature of the beast!).
