“This is a magnificent machine. There are very few of them left. If you’ve never played one it’s hard to describe what it does but you get some incredible sounds out of it.
It’s not in perfect condition. One of the keys is damaged but this does not affect playing. You can see it in the pics. It’s also missing some of the knobs on the faders but this is also purely cosmetic. There is a little bit of crackle when you slide a couple of the faders but again nothing major. It is still an amazing machine to play.” Link

“Vintage, rare Moog Opus 3 Analogue Polyphonic synthesiser. In full working order. Please note: two of the switches have come away from the unit, these can easily be replaced – only the top of the switches have come away, the function of the switch still works by using something like a pen to move the switch mechanism into place as a temporary measure – the last two pictures show what I mean. Other than this, the synth is in full working order and sounds amazing. It sounds distinctively ‘Moog-ish’ and is incredibly versatile, able to achieve sounds such as spacey, smooth, sweet, deep, punchy, squelchy and sweet – it can do realistic vintage/60s organ sounds as well – all sounds can be mixed in together and thus offers an exciting range of sounds to be explored, I have lost count of the number of different sounds it can produce! Also comes complete with AC power cable.” Link

Looks and sounds amazing, these Moog’s are very hard to find especially in such good condition.

Some small marks here and there but no more that to be expected of a vintage synth. It’s the cleanest one I’ve seen.

Also included in the sale, printed manual and power lead.” Link

“MOOG OPUS 3. in FULL WORKING ORDER.
Polyphonic analogue string synthesizer with Stereo outputs.
Comes with manual!
As used by Stereolab, 808 State, etc. A very powerful synth in the right hands!
This a 120v us power version, so it needs a UK mains adapter which you can cheaply from ebay, Maplin etc.” Link

“This is the famed Moog Opus 3 up for sale. This keys on this are in excellent condition as is the wood, metal case, jacks in the back etc. The faceplate plate plastic has a couple hairline cracks from age that are so faint, I am not even sure it will show up in the high rez photo. You have to strain to see them It is missing 4 slider knobs but they are available for purchase pretty reasonably. Some of the sliders and the main volume pot will need to be replaced. Some are scratchy, don’t work well, and in the case of the volume pot, it only works when turned all the way up. You probably can fix a lot of this with deoxit but I would recommend new sliders. You can get them directly from Moog for like 120 dollars. This keyboard works but the sliders and volume pot are sketchy as I said. The rubber feet on the bottom of the keyboard are intact too. Beautiful keyboard but due to the issues I mentioned and the age of the unit, it is obviously sold as is.” Link

“I have had this for a while. Things that have worked on it have intermittent faults. I am pretty sure that it just needs a bloody good clean and lots will work again. I downloaded the service manual for it but pretty soon realised I am not an electrical engineer! I have gigged and practised with it a bit, but nothing strenuous although nothing has been done to it service wise and it has fallen into a state of disrepair. It is with regret that I am letting go of it having not restored it to its full Moogy glory.

Basically faders and pots have become more and more crackly. String section is not working properly. Organ sound was and still is (to my knowledge) ok. Brass has got worse. The stereo mixer and filter and resonance have also got worse (they were a bit dodgy when I got it) It definitely needs some professional help.

I know these are not the best/most sort after Moogs but it still sounds very punchy and has the signature Moog sound.

Hope someone can give this the TLC it deserves!” Link

“Here’s one really rare MOOG OPUS 3 Polyphonic Keyboard/Synth.
I bought this from a guy in LA, California way back in 2009.
Condition is good, just the aged cosmetic wears. Which is common for old vintage devices.

There is some really minor faults, which I think many synth/keyboard techs can solve the problem, when you send this Moog for standard servicing (internal cleaning & stuffs).
It is very difficult and almost no one here in Malaysia knows how to even check a vintage Moog. So I’ve been using it for recordings and sessions un-serviced. Still it served me well! Sounds are all perfect, except for 1 or 2 things that need to look into.

Faults are:
1. 2 Keys are not engaging on certain “Patch”
2. 1 or 2 sliders are “better to be replaced” because they’re scratchy. Thats all.
3. 2-3 Slider’s Knobs are missing. (Can be purchased back online) *see picture, ALL knobs are in packet.

Cosmetic wears:
1. Small chip on wood panel. (Here and there) Typical move wear.
2. Small crack on wood panel. (Front-Below) Not a major thing at all.

Other than that, is all good.
Home studio use only. Never giged. Served me real well, and now I’m about to part with it as I really need to clear off some of my equipments due to relocating.” Link

“Up for your consideration is a Moog Opus 3. This is a nice polyphonic synthesizer from 1980. I am going to be as specific as I can regarding the condition of this item.

FUNCTIONALITY: The unit sounds excellent and ALMOST everything works. There is ONE issue. The articulator, which is pictured works only when both the ‘attack’ and ‘release’ sliders are slightly contracted toward one another. I am not a synth technician and I am not sure how this could be fixed. It could be a fairly simple fix. Aside from the articulator, I found no issues with the functionality of this unit.

COSMETICS: This unit has a few minor issues. A few slider caps are missing on the unit, specifically, there are four slider caps missing and one knob (‘master gain’ is missing). The missing caps, along with the missing knob, do NOT affect the playability of the unit. Additionally, there are several small scuffs on the wood panels on this unit. Also, the wood panel that is on the front of the unit directly below the keyboard itself is loose. I tried to demonstrate in the pictures how the wooden panel is slightly movable. The condition of the wood and the loose panel does not affect the playability of the unit. Lastly, there is a small piece of chipped wood on the back of the unit. The chip is less than an inch and I do have the piece of wood that has fallen off. The last two photos that I have provided show the small chip with the wood and without the wood that has fallen out, with a little glue it would look fine.

Even though I have listed several small cosmetic issues with the unit, I think it is important to consider the age of this keyboard. I still feel, despite these issues, that the keyboard is in very good shape. However, as mentioned earlier, I did want to be as specific as possible in describing the condition. ” Link

“I am selling my well cared for, Moog Opus 3, Polyphonic Analogue Synthesizer.

The synth is in wonderful condition and looks absolutely fantastic! The Maple wooden housing has been fully reconditioned and looks amazing.
The synth had a full service by Gareth at Sound Service in Leeds earlier this year and feels great to play.
The synth is cosmetically flawless and has no dints of marks.

The only things worth mentioning are as follows;

The fader cap for the String section Filter Cutoff slider is missing.

The fader for the Modulation Delay has detached from the faceplate resulting in the fader being a bit wobbly. The functionality is till fine and works 100%, I think the fader just needs fixing back to the board.

The Chorus features 3 chips to create a rich and deep chorus effect, however, 2 of these are no longer working resulting in the chorus outputting an almost tremolo like effect instead of a chorus. Probably an easy fix however I never managed to get round to doing it.

These are very small imperfections that have never bothered me but I wanted to be 100% honest about any flaws to ensure satisfaction to the buyer.” Link

“Moog OPUS 3, intact and fully functional

Comes with power chord.

Purchased in 1982, I am sole owner. There are no missing parts (knobs, keys, sliders and switches) or non-functional features. Still works great.

There are a small number of superficial defects

The body shows some wear: scratches, scuffs and one dent (upper right corner).

Low E key has minor chip (see close-up).

The control panel decal is peeling at upper corners.

One screw missing from bottom of body (back left).” Link

What doesn’t work: Pitch Bend Tuning Knob VCO Modulation Attack portion of VCF envelope Octave switches on String and Brass 2 Octave sliders in organ section Articulator Mode switch broken Articulator attack String on/off switch broken 2 Dead keys 4 Slider caps missing The good news: 1. String, Brass and Organ all still make a sound 2. The Chorus and filter sections both seem ok 3. I’ll include two spare switches to replace the broken ones 4. It’s still somewhat playable, if you’re careful I’ve tried to be as descriptive as possible regarding the problems this synth has” Link

“This auction is for a vintage Moog Opus 3 synth.

Please note: It works but sometimes the sound output is inconsistent. For example, when playing a key for the first time after a period of inactivity the sound will ‘fade in’. I don’t know if this is normal for a vintage analog synth – I am no expert. Everything else seems to work fine, but bear in mind it is not 100% OK and I guess a service/clean up would be useful.” Link

“This is a cool and unique polyphonic Moog synthesizer. The Brass sounds are warm, the organ sounds are bright, the strings are nice and all can be mixed together and modulated!

I am selling this synth AS IS for the following reasons: the furthest right key does not sound, the lowest two octave draw bars on the organ section are currently not functioning, and the strings and organ sections seem to sometimes not be as loud as the brass section (may or may not be an issue). This is an old synth. It works but it will need a little bit of service to be 100% functional. ” Link

This Synthesizer comes from the home of professional musician. The owner kept this synth as part of his vintage collection and maintained this piece extremely well. He is moving and has decided to let several of his pieces go.
The unit shows some light wear spots on the wood case as expected..Keys are smooth and non sticking without damage. all knobs turn smoothly and operate as they should..this unit comes with the power cord for 110. very clean and sharp cosmetic appearance..This unit was fully demonstrated on all functions by the owner and all functions are fully operational. This is a nice Synth and will be carefully packed .” Link

“his auction/bin is for 1 Moog Opus 3 .
All keys work – all knobs work – master gain is a little scratchy and skips when turning up or down but works in full volume and lower volumes just set it and leave it or maybe its an easy clean.
Side panels are worn from this being a 70′s keyboard.
Also this board has fading/discoloration in the middle of the panel- this does not affect the functionality – just the aesthetics at first – then i think it adds caricature.
The coolest thing about this keyboard to me is the on board panning of lf and rt or center between the 3 sound elements.
Example: Organ panned straight center /strings panned to hard left/ brass panned to hard right.
Makes for extremely easy control of fatness of sounds, or any live panning features for live/studio work it really grabs your attention.” Link

“When i found this baby at an estate sale it was covered with 30 years of dirt and filth in a basement. I probably used an entire roll of paper towels to clean it and underneath it turned out to look near perfect–a super clean example with no broken or missing parts that i can see. The reason i tell you about the dirt is that remember that all these faders and pots get dirty too–so as with any old piece of gear that has been unplayed and kept dirty there is quite a bit of dirt in the pots-so expect to have to have this guy fully cleaned, sprayed and exercised to get rid of scratchiness and crackles when moving pots. Certainly not all of them-but a bunch are, as expected, pretty dirty. Otheriwse it’s a great find of a cool piece by the man himself Robert Moog. S/n looks like 199 see pics and make some cool sounds google for all the specs” Link

Link

Great little MOOG with 3 sections that you can mix and run through the moog famous Filter in various ways to create your own sounds

APPEARANCE
This unit looks great. All keys are complete and clean. No cracks or dents. Wooden sides are complete and look nice. One side wooden face has a tape that can be removed easily. Face is clean with few minor scratches. One Switch is missing but still usable. Two sliders missing the cover but still move freely and smoothly.

CONDITION
Synth is in working condition. Turns on. Light up. All keys make sound when play. Not sure if all functions work correctly but i could make different crazy sounds by
playing with it.
Might need some adjustments and TLC.

“The Opus for sale is a clean and treasured example of this great vintage synthesizer.

Cosmetically, the Opus is in pristine condition, the Hardwood body has been reconditioned to it’s natural golden maple colour and the unit is free from scratches.

The only deviations from 100% functionality are as follows;

The Chorus section for the String sound is slightly weaker than it should be. this is due to 2 of the 3 BDD chips that make the chorus board being disfunctional. (the string section along with all the other sound features on this synth are 100% functional)

The Delay fader for the modulation still works 100% efficiently but the fader seems to have been disjointed from the facia so it has to be moved with a certain degree of technique (not as smooth and practical as all the other faders)

The only original part missing is the fader cap for the string filter.

The Opus is a real joy to play and sounds unique.
It was recently serviced by Gareth at Sound Service, Leeds to ensure the optimum performance from the keyboard and controls” Link

“This Moog Opus 3 was recently picked-up at a estate sale. The outside was fully cleaned and tested to best of my ability (I have no musical talent) and it does appear to work as it should. All the controls and switches work with no scratchy noise or clicks when changing the settings (I would still clean the switches and controls if you are going to use it in a professional manner). There is no damage other than some wear on the wood pieces which is mostly the finish is worn or chipped off to expose the bare wood.
