“So…. you want vintage, you want analogue/analog and you want rare – and I mean seriously only one in the world rare not the sort of ‘rare’ (i.e two a week rare) that you usually find on ebay. This was made in 1980 by Moog in the USA, runs on 240v and was customised by one of the world’s best last year….. If you’re a collector – or a musician with passion – you’ll want this one. So read on.

Just testing the water here as I really don’t want to sell this but if there is enough interest I will! Some of the photos shown here were taken by Jeff at Customsynth uk when it was being customised last year and the others were taken by me this week.

If anyone is interested in this fully serviced and customised Cream and Gold MOOG Liberation with Power Supply MOOG rack module, 50 foot connecting cable, very thick white leather posing/playing strap (shown rolled up in picture 10 and of course seen attached to the keyboard in pix 1 and 2) and custom made flight case – foam lined and red outside and it fits the power supply as well under the keyboard – this is the auction for you! It’s all ready to go – just add amplification – so you can start posing in front of that mirror immediately! It is definitely collection only from Hove, near Brighton in the UK and even in if you live in the US or Australia you’d be mad to ask me to risk this unique item on a courier (so don’t ask as I won’t do it) and have a holiday in the UK!

When did you last see a custom Moog Liberation on ebay? When did you last see a Moog Liberation on ebay available to UK buyers rather than just in the US – period!? It is in perfect working/sonic condition and excellent cosmetic condition, having only been customised exactly one year ago. This was serviced by James Walker at Synth Restore and then Customised by Jeff Toman at Custom Synth in Devon, UK last June/July – 2009. I’ve just been in touch with Jeff and he is sending me a small pot of the paint he used so if it ever needs any touching up in future (it’s a wooden body underneath – remember wood!?) you will have the right match. By the way if you look closely at the pix you will see Jeff has added his own little quirk by calling oscillators one and oscillator two both oscillator one – this is deliberate and is best seen in the fourth photo. If the winner really wants that one letter/number changed from 1 to 2 he is happy to do it for you but you will need to get it to him yourself in Devon after you’ve got it from me! This it is collection only from Hove near Brighton – a great place for a weekend away – and cash on collection, cleared cheque or bank transfer preferably but Paypal is possible. It’s for collection as I can just lift the flight case with the Moog inside (and I’m six foot tall and fairly strong!) so there’s no way a courier is getting their hands on it!! Buy it now is set to see what offers you want to make – but the price isn’t that crazy looking at what people are charging for synths at present which are nowhere near as rare – or exciting. So questions and offers please. For those that are interested the ebay fees alone on this one are almost £100. Paypal will easily double those fees so do contact me if you want to use Paypal before pressing that button” Link

“This is in excellent working condition. The cable has been repaired as you can see in the photo.” Link

“HERE IT IS, THE FIRST SEMI-POLYPHONIC-STAND UP-KEYTAR SYNTHESIZER from MOOG circa. 1980’s.

IT WEIGHS 14 POUNDS and includes a GREAT – WIDE – STRAP for optional SHOULDER USE.

IT HAS THESE COMPONENTS ON BOARD:

2-OSCILLATORS

1-NOISE GENERATOR

1-RING MODULATOR

1-POLYPHONIC OSCILLATOR [ an organ - like pad that simulates osc. polyphony when mixed

with the osc's. at the audio output ]

1-VOLTAGE CONTROLLED-low-pass-FILTER

2-CONTOUR [envelope generators] GENERATORS

1-VOLTAGE CONTROLLED AMPLIFIER

1-INTERFACE-POWER SUPPLY UNIT [a seperate rack-like chassis]

THE LIBERATION SOUNDS GREAT LIKE ALL MOOGS !! IT INCLUDES A PITCH-BEND RIBBON CONTROL SURFACE and, A MOD WHEEL !!

THE INTERFACE UNIT PROVIDES POWER AND REMOTE CONTROL OF AN EXTERNAL SYNTH.

note————THE EXTERNAL SYNTH MUST BE EQUIPPED WITH [s-tigger and control-voltage inputs]

INCLUDED ARE THE ORIGINAL OWNERS MANUAL AND SERVICE FLYER [ which has the complete SCHEMO'S ]

I AM THE ORIGINAL OWNER AND the MOOG WORKS GREAT ! IT IS IN GREAT CONDITION [ with one exception ]:

since it was stored in it’s [included flight-case] for so long, the back and bottom of the neck have retained some of the

foam residue that came from the inside of the case. Hence, the Liberation feels just a little tacky. The top-front controls

however, were covered with a plastic cover and were not subject to the deterioration of the foam lining !!!

I USED THE MOOG LIVE, ONLY A FEW TIMES. MOSTLY IT WAS USED IN MY STUDIO AS A TABLE TOP UNIT [because of it's weight].” Link

“Here is your chance to own a piece of musical history, a Moog Liberation in good working condition. I purchased years ago and had it recently serviced by Mike Bucki of Modusonics who if you are not familiar with is one of the original engineers in Buffalo NY where they made them and when they moved he bought the warehouse of spare parts and works for many famous artists. It comes with the original case, manual, 25′ Cord, and a special Liberation Test module power supply that he hooked me up with since my original went missing. It even includes the original strap that came with the keytar and is in very good shape. Other then some minor flaws you can see in picture 9 and some paint scuffs on the back from gigging it is a beast that needs a good home. As you can see the keys are all intact and buttons and faceplate are immaculate.” Link

“Plays and sounds amazing! This rare and unique Moog has been well cared for. It is in good working condition, but has some cosmetic wear. (see photos) One fader knob is missing, a small crack in one of the keys has been glued, there is a crack in a joint on the back, and a chip in the wood body. Despite these blemishes it retains its overall appearance and works great. These instruments are nearly impossible to come by in any condition, especially this rare white version.

I have enjoyed playing this instrument and have had no problems with it besides two loose faders which I had repaired. This is a unique and highly collectible piece of synthesizer history. I am sad to part with this keyboard, but I am a guitar player and can no longer justify holding onto it.

Six pin cable, Moog Liberation power supply/interface, and strap are included.” Link

“MOOG LIBERATION! VERY GOOD SHAPE FOR ITS AGE.SER#2038. LOTS OF LITTLE DINGS AND SCRATCHES. SPLIT IN WOOD ON COTROLLER SHOWN IN POTO. CASE IN GOOD SHAPE ONE BROKEN CLASP. OSC WAVEFORM SWITCH A LITTLE STICKY BUT 100PCT WORKING. INTERFACE CABLE INCLUDED. EVERYTHING INCLUDED.” Link

Link

218_031 “This is a nice example of this vintage ‘Moog Liberation’ synthesizer. The unit powers right on, and the previous owner says that it works and performs great, and I really do not have a way to fully test it, and it is sold as is. The finish has scratches and spots of edgewear on the sides and back, and the neck has a few small spots of edgewear, and it is missing the Poly control knob. The top control area is nice and clean, with no scratches, and the keys move nice and smoothly, and the Pitch Ribbon on the neck looks to be in perfect condition. The accompanying Power Supply is in perfect condition, with not a scratch on it. It includes the case, which shows a few tiny spots of wear, and the inside is nice and clean. Also includes the strap and cable. The serial number on the power supply is 1869. I have taken a number of photos. Measures 46″ in length.” Link

moog_liberationb2 “You are bidding on a Super Rare and Highly Sought-After Vintage, MOOG Liberation Performance Stage Analog Synthesizer! Designed by legendary, Bob Moog, Liberation was the first of its kind that was loaded with features still advanced today. It is simple to use and has that unique Moog sound. It’s a 2-VCO monophonic analog synth with a simple polyphonic section for playing organ-type sounds. It also has a cool ribbon controller — cutting edge for its time — for pitch bending. Some other nice on-board features include a ring modulator, noise generator, and syncable VCO’s.” Link

“Up for your consideration is a vintage rare Moog Liberation Synthesizer. This has been tested and works fine except for the “keyboard track” function. The switch is missing, however I’m sure that this could be repaired.” Link

“a rare find. bought in the late 80’s and it sounded great…although its a monophonic synth. unfortunatly someone stole the rack, which powers up the synth. i’ve heard that there is a comparable power supply from radio shack. in a nut shell, it worked before the power unit was stolen so i havent played it since the early 90’s. please buy at own risk since i can tell you it worked but i cant guarantee it since its been so long. this is my baby and i dont want to sell it but lost job and i need the money.online searches showed me that they are going for $2,000 to $1,700…but since i dont have the power supply, it will be a great find for someone at a good price. these are very hard to find so consider yourselves lucky..lol. this is the musical instrument that ushered in the electronic music era, the moog was the first proffesional grade synthesizer and was very popular with serious musicians like james brown, herbie hancock, and a few more musicians.” Link

“This auction is for a Fine, Vintage, Moog Liberation Keytar Synthesizer which comes in its original case (no key) with power supply, power cord, amp cord and strap.
Serial numbers for the Moog Liberation synthesizers began with 1001 and the serial number of this unit is 1182. This is a one-owner keytar that was purchased by the owner in 1981.
This unit is in fine physical and operating condition and the action of all the keys is excellent.
There are two exceptions to the above description.
The small lever of one mixer called “Noise” has broken off although there is just enough left so that it can be moved and is functional, but it takes a deliberate effort and could not be moved quickly in performance.
The other exception is cosmetic, and as our photos show, the owner has covered the ends of the white keys on the keyboard with a camouflage material. (The material has come off of one key.)
We are not sure if this was for simple aesthetic purposes, or if it also served to reduce the slipperiness of the keys in performance.
Beyond that, this great classic Keytar Synthesizer is GOOD TO GO!” Link

“This is a 1980’s keytar style synth. The device is black in color and comes with the original case, power supply, and owners manual. The latches on both ends of the case work, but there is no key for the locks. The middle 2 latches on the case will need replaced. The manual is complete, but yellowed and coffee stained. I am not the original owner of the device and cannot give you a complete history. I have owned it since 2000 and it has been lightly used or stored since then. Prior to that it was owned (not used as far back as I can remember, but stored) by a high school band. It was obviously put to good use at some point in its life. The finish on the bottom is worn along the edges(see pics). All knobs, switches, sliders, and keys work. Some of the pots are scratchy and I assume to be affecting the sound of the unit. I don’t have a good reference for what the device is supposed to sound like, so I cannot say for sure. All the keys produce an output when played.” Link
