“Up for sale is my MOOG LIBERATION…The rare White Rhino version.
I just had it serviced (SEE PHOTO RECEIPT), for a mod wheel replacement, and to fix the jack. It is fully operational. It takes 10 minutes or so to warm up before playing. Its 30 years old. The case is missing the handle and one latch (i have included an extra latch). The cable is intact but has become microphonic, it would be a good idea to find a back-up. Other than a few chips in the paint and some belt buckle rash it is in good shape. 7.5/10″ Link

“It’s all there except for the knobs and screws. I disassembled this unit 20 years ago to refinish and got the wood parts stripped and sanded and that’s as far as I got. There are a lot of parts there, all the parts except the knobs and screws that are lost. It was working just fine. Good restoration project.

If I find the knobs, I’ll send them along later.” Link

Ach, Sie wissen immer…..

Link

“It has been pampered in its original case, all the original components, in Like new condition, with one cracked and repaired key (does not effect the playability) and a few minor scuff marks.

Everything is original from case to strap to the rack mount to the cable to the owners manual. The locks and latches on all sides are in good shape. As it is a vintage piece in great condition, it will hold its value as a piece of history. As an instrument, it will bring you back to the roots of synth!

It was never beat and banged by roadies; it’s like a classic car you discover has been sitting under a cover in your great aunts garage. She drove it to the grocery store once in a while. The Moog Liberation is a true piece of music history. It is a true vintage piece, a Collectors dream, a musicians chance to play in the era where it all began, a rare analog piece. Liberations are hard to find. You can own this one! I am finally ready to part with it.” Link

” A rare white Moog Liberation in very good working condition. It has a cable repair that is the only thing that is not original. ” Link

The Moog Liberation is the first production keytar–and it is still the best sounding. The guts of the Liberation incorporate a filter similar to the Prodigy, a poly section similar to the MG-1, and oscillators similar to the Rogue. The performance controls are unique and powerful–they include a ribbon controller and aftertouch. Playing the Liberation on stage isn’t out of the question–it looks heavier than it actually is and it has nice leather strap locks to prevent it from being dropped. This Liberation has new locking connectors and a long cable to connect it to the power rack.

This Moog is in very good condition. It works perfectly and looks good despite some general wear–mostly in the form of chipping paint. A nice strap, the power rack, and cable are all included. The power rack is custom, built by Switched On Music Electronics. It is identical to the stock one, but has V-trig (Arp, Roland, modular, etc.) as well as S-trig (Moog, Yamaha, early Korg) outputs.” Link

“Add new dimensions to your stage presence with this Moog Liberation Keytar! This vintage piece works very well. I’ve had several people who know a lot about keyboards check it out. They were all impressed with it’s sound, features, and how well it worked. However, this is not a museum quality piece. It’s an unrestored 30 year old, synth, that has had a lot of amateur cosmetic touchups. If you want something perfect that you’ll never have to work on, this is not the synth for you. If you just want a really cool looking synth you can plug into your amp and get some amazing vintage sounds out of, this is your synth.

The bad:

Amateur touch up, could use a re-finish.

ribbon sensor/pitch bender is worn but works

finish is worn on the neck

led on powersupply doesn’t work/missing. Leds on synth work.

power supply-to-keytar cord has been replaced.

The good:

Amazing sound.

Comes with case/strap

As far as I can tell, everything else is more or less functional.

Amazing period design.

Amazing sound. ” Link

“This is a Moog Liberation synthesizer. It was one of the first commercially-available keytar-style synthesizers. This one is in great shape and has been babied and upgraded throughout the years. Some notable features:

Dual-oscillator synth engine with sawtooth, triangle, square waves.
Fat Moog filter.
An interesting poly-mode as well as ring-modulation.
ADSR envelopes (Decay + Release together) for both the filter and the amp.

You can find out more information about the Liberation at vintagesynth.com and synthmuseum.com and there are a handful of demos on Youtube (I will try to put one up there myself before the end of the auction.) I have owned this synth for many, many years and have upgraded it in the following ways:

Entirely new set of reproduction sliders, slider caps and knob caps from Technology Transplant were installed a few years ago. They work great – much better than the original plastic ones.

Refinished in stunning white a year ago. There is a little bit of wear to the exterior, but not much. For an instrument 30+ years old, it looks great – see photos.
Had Midwest Music Menders perform over $200 in updates and repairs to various components a year ago. Basically a mega tune-up. I can include a copy of the receipt with the synth.
Brand new 30-foot XLR-styled connector cable custom built to replace old, unreliable cable used to connect the Liberation to the power supply.

There are a few minor issues as well:

Exterior is in great shape, but not mint.
No case, although you could certainly get a custom hard-shell case built for it or buy a cheaper keyboard bag (which is what I did for a while.)
There is about a 2-inch chunk of one of the rack ears missing on the power supply unit that I have electrical-taped over (see photo.) This is purely a cosmetic issue.
The highest B key was cracked at one point (before I owned it) but was repaired and works fine. No issues.

The pitch-bend ribbon is a little worn, but still works great. No functional issues.
The bottom line is that this is a great, classic analog synthesizer that’s in excellent playable condition. It pains me to sell it, but sometimes you have to move on. I would be willing to deliver the synth anywhere within 2 hours of Chicago. Otherwise I will pack it well and ship via Fed Ex Ground. All sales are final on my items – please see my terms below – and thanks for looking!” Link

“The liberation comes complete with the power interface and cables together with a user manual ,the manual has loose front and rear covers. Ideal for restoration . The moog does not power up or make sound, mst of the slider controls are not operating smoothly and could do with replacing, there are new ones available online, there is some cracking to the chassis and will need restoring, some slider caps are missing and some sliders are bent. Sold as seen with no returns, a meet drop off is possible, as spares are available for the moog Liberation restoring is possible, any questions please ask. The moog runs on USA voltage and a adapter will be required as there is not one included in sale.” Link

“This Moog Liberation was purchased in 1982 and has had only one original owner. It has been used on live performances all over the USA, mostly in Las Vegas and Atlantic City. It can be used for a wide variety of reasons, the owner used it to play bass on many occasions. Looking for a US buyer only. The Liberation is in full working order.” Link

” RARE as they say WHITE 100% working Moog Liberation! with original hard shell case.IT DOES HAVE A MOD ( in picture 5) WHICH I HAVE PICTURED AND HAVE NO CLUE WHAT IT DOES, CASE: does not have the key or Handle…, THERE IS A CRACK IN THE NECK LOOKS LIKE IT HAS BEEN REPAIRED…(see pict 3 and 4) I love this thing, but due to the Economy .. I must part with it…” Link

“This is a Vintage Moog Liberation Synthesizer! Its a piece of analog music history!

I picked this up a few years back from the children of the original owner. He wasn’t famous, just a
local rocker. I haven’t played it as much as I would have liked and its time for it to find a new home
with someone who will love it as much as I have.

The keytar is in good shape, everything works including the glide bar (which lights up too!) and it has
a fat and funky sound. It has a long 6 pin cable for hooking it up and a rack mountable power supply.
The case has a cosmetic tear in the outer covering which can be seen in one of the pictures above. (but
cases take a beating so your stuff doesn’t)” Link

“# Make/Model:
# Number of Keys: 44 + Ribbon controller
# Features: Includes Strap, Rack, Cable and Original Owners Manual in Hard Case.

# Condition: This Liberation Keytar is clean! It has had one owner, and he took great care of it. It has some light wear and the “ring out” oscillator control is a little loose but still in great working order, otherwise this synth is in excellent condition! It sounds awesome and all controls, keys and functions work well. This is your chance to own this rare and unbelievable Moog synth, do not miss out!

# Comments: It will also be professionally packed and shipped. Good luck.” Link

“For your consideration here is a first generation Moog Liberation circa 1980. Most sites claim the Liberation came into existence in 1981. Not so!
They actually began production in 1979 and the first generations were released in 1980 and this is one of those very machines! This guy had suffered from the ever so dreaded ‘rotting foam explosion’ gumming up all the sliders and switches. So, all those sliders and switches have been replaced along with all new electrolytic capacitors and rebuilt power supply. End result: One hell of a mind warping machine! (if you would like to see before and after photos of the restoration I can gladly accommodate that for you. I can email them to you as ebay only lets me put up 12 photos. So if you want to see them just let me know)
The other super cool detail on this guy is that the serial number of the external amplifier MATCHES the synthesizer!! These two are the original pair!
Everything is up to ‘par’ and working as it should 100%. There are a couple mentionable things such as the power amp has a crack in it’s handle and the connector cable has been taped on both ends however, works perfectly. The handle is completely stable and in no way bends or moves. The ‘exterior’ of the case is rough but, complete and very sturdy with all latches working! The interior of the case is in beautiful shape with it’s ever so inviting shaggy long blue upholstery! These are fairly rare anymore and would make any player shine on stage! Also, the handle is in great shape as well with the pitch ribbon in perfect condition! All knobs are present, there are four ‘replacement’ caps on four of the sliders that are black. I ordered these some time ago for a Concertmate repair and had some left over. Personally, I don’t care for the replacement caps but, they do their job and hold on nicely. This is a very sweet synthesizer and is very expressive. I will recommend that if you have never played on one of these machines it may benefit you to download a users manual. They are available on-line. Over all you can navigate your way without one if you’re use to playing on vintage Moogs.
As with any vintage piece these guys can sometimes be finicky. When you get her plugged in and switched on my advice is to let it idle up for five minutes or so. This is with all vintage synthesizers. You can be assured a better performance out of all and any of these machines by simply letting them warm up. I have been doing restorations and repairs to synthesizers and other equipment for 20 years and from experience this tends to be the best policy :) Link

“Original Moog Liberation. Extremely rare synthesizer in good condition and comes with original leather strap and original case. Works well. Has the odd little mark here and there but is generally in good order. The little knob on the ‘slide’ function has come off but doesn’t affect the ‘slide’ function. You can still move it and it works well. The same with the ‘attack’ slider but again this too works well. Also I have the two knobs ( pictured ) that will be supplied with the synth. Has been regulary serviced. I’ve owed this synth since 1985 and it’s appeared on many many recordings. ” Link

“So…. you want vintage, you want analogue/analog and you want rare – and I mean seriously only one in the world rare not the sort of ‘rare’ (i.e two a week rare) that you usually find on ebay. This was made in 1980 by Moog in the USA, runs on 240v and was customised by one of the world’s best last year….. If you’re a collector – or a musician with passion – you’ll want this one. So read on.

Just testing the water here as I really don’t want to sell this but if there is enough interest I will! Some of the photos shown here were taken by Jeff at Customsynth uk when it was being customised last year and the others were taken by me this week.

If anyone is interested in this fully serviced and customised Cream and Gold MOOG Liberation with Power Supply MOOG rack module, 50 foot connecting cable, very thick white leather posing/playing strap (shown rolled up in picture 10 and of course seen attached to the keyboard in pix 1 and 2) and custom made flight case – foam lined and red outside and it fits the power supply as well under the keyboard – this is the auction for you! It’s all ready to go – just add amplification – so you can start posing in front of that mirror immediately! It is definitely collection only from Hove, near Brighton in the UK and even in if you live in the US or Australia you’d be mad to ask me to risk this unique item on a courier (so don’t ask as I won’t do it) and have a holiday in the UK!

When did you last see a custom Moog Liberation on ebay? When did you last see a Moog Liberation on ebay available to UK buyers rather than just in the US – period!? It is in perfect working/sonic condition and excellent cosmetic condition, having only been customised exactly one year ago. This was serviced by James Walker at Synth Restore and then Customised by Jeff Toman at Custom Synth in Devon, UK last June/July – 2009. I’ve just been in touch with Jeff and he is sending me a small pot of the paint he used so if it ever needs any touching up in future (it’s a wooden body underneath – remember wood!?) you will have the right match. By the way if you look closely at the pix you will see Jeff has added his own little quirk by calling oscillators one and oscillator two both oscillator one – this is deliberate and is best seen in the fourth photo. If the winner really wants that one letter/number changed from 1 to 2 he is happy to do it for you but you will need to get it to him yourself in Devon after you’ve got it from me! This it is collection only from Hove near Brighton – a great place for a weekend away – and cash on collection, cleared cheque or bank transfer preferably but Paypal is possible. It’s for collection as I can just lift the flight case with the Moog inside (and I’m six foot tall and fairly strong!) so there’s no way a courier is getting their hands on it!! Buy it now is set to see what offers you want to make – but the price isn’t that crazy looking at what people are charging for synths at present which are nowhere near as rare – or exciting. So questions and offers please. For those that are interested the ebay fees alone on this one are almost £100. Paypal will easily double those fees so do contact me if you want to use Paypal before pressing that button” Link

“This is in excellent working condition. The cable has been repaired as you can see in the photo.” Link

“HERE IT IS, THE FIRST SEMI-POLYPHONIC-STAND UP-KEYTAR SYNTHESIZER from MOOG circa. 1980′s.

IT WEIGHS 14 POUNDS and includes a GREAT – WIDE – STRAP for optional SHOULDER USE.

IT HAS THESE COMPONENTS ON BOARD:

2-OSCILLATORS

1-NOISE GENERATOR

1-RING MODULATOR

1-POLYPHONIC OSCILLATOR [ an organ - like pad that simulates osc. polyphony when mixed

with the osc's. at the audio output ]

1-VOLTAGE CONTROLLED-low-pass-FILTER

2-CONTOUR [envelope generators] GENERATORS

1-VOLTAGE CONTROLLED AMPLIFIER

1-INTERFACE-POWER SUPPLY UNIT [a seperate rack-like chassis]

THE LIBERATION SOUNDS GREAT LIKE ALL MOOGS !! IT INCLUDES A PITCH-BEND RIBBON CONTROL SURFACE and, A MOD WHEEL !!

THE INTERFACE UNIT PROVIDES POWER AND REMOTE CONTROL OF AN EXTERNAL SYNTH.

note————THE EXTERNAL SYNTH MUST BE EQUIPPED WITH [s-tigger and control-voltage inputs]

INCLUDED ARE THE ORIGINAL OWNERS MANUAL AND SERVICE FLYER [ which has the complete SCHEMO'S ]

I AM THE ORIGINAL OWNER AND the MOOG WORKS GREAT ! IT IS IN GREAT CONDITION [ with one exception ]:

since it was stored in it’s [included flight-case] for so long, the back and bottom of the neck have retained some of the

foam residue that came from the inside of the case. Hence, the Liberation feels just a little tacky. The top-front controls

however, were covered with a plastic cover and were not subject to the deterioration of the foam lining !!!

I USED THE MOOG LIVE, ONLY A FEW TIMES. MOSTLY IT WAS USED IN MY STUDIO AS A TABLE TOP UNIT [because of it's weight].” Link

“Here is your chance to own a piece of musical history, a Moog Liberation in good working condition. I purchased years ago and had it recently serviced by Mike Bucki of Modusonics who if you are not familiar with is one of the original engineers in Buffalo NY where they made them and when they moved he bought the warehouse of spare parts and works for many famous artists. It comes with the original case, manual, 25′ Cord, and a special Liberation Test module power supply that he hooked me up with since my original went missing. It even includes the original strap that came with the keytar and is in very good shape. Other then some minor flaws you can see in picture 9 and some paint scuffs on the back from gigging it is a beast that needs a good home. As you can see the keys are all intact and buttons and faceplate are immaculate.” Link

“Plays and sounds amazing! This rare and unique Moog has been well cared for. It is in good working condition, but has some cosmetic wear. (see photos) One fader knob is missing, a small crack in one of the keys has been glued, there is a crack in a joint on the back, and a chip in the wood body. Despite these blemishes it retains its overall appearance and works great. These instruments are nearly impossible to come by in any condition, especially this rare white version.

I have enjoyed playing this instrument and have had no problems with it besides two loose faders which I had repaired. This is a unique and highly collectible piece of synthesizer history. I am sad to part with this keyboard, but I am a guitar player and can no longer justify holding onto it.

Six pin cable, Moog Liberation power supply/interface, and strap are included.” Link

“MOOG LIBERATION! VERY GOOD SHAPE FOR ITS AGE.SER#2038. LOTS OF LITTLE DINGS AND SCRATCHES. SPLIT IN WOOD ON COTROLLER SHOWN IN POTO. CASE IN GOOD SHAPE ONE BROKEN CLASP. RIBBON CONTOLLER RECOVERED WITH DUCT TAPE.. THIS UNIT WAS GONE THROUGH PAGE BY PAGE WITH THE OWNERS BOOK AND EVERYTHING IS FUNCTIONING CORRECTLY. OSC WAVEFORM SWITCH A LITTLE STICKY BUT 100PCT WORKING. INTERFACE CABLE INCLUDED. EVERYTHING INCLUDED.” Link

Link

218_031 “This is a nice example of this vintage ‘Moog Liberation’ synthesizer. The unit powers right on, and the previous owner says that it works and performs great, and I really do not have a way to fully test it, and it is sold as is. The finish has scratches and spots of edgewear on the sides and back, and the neck has a few small spots of edgewear, and it is missing the Poly control knob. The top control area is nice and clean, with no scratches, and the keys move nice and smoothly, and the Pitch Ribbon on the neck looks to be in perfect condition. The accompanying Power Supply is in perfect condition, with not a scratch on it. It includes the case, which shows a few tiny spots of wear, and the inside is nice and clean. Also includes the strap and cable. The serial number on the power supply is 1869. I have taken a number of photos. Measures 46″ in length.” Link

“Up for your consideration is a vintage rare Moog Liberation Synthesizer. This has been tested and works fine except for the “keyboard track” function. The switch is missing, however I’m sure that this could be repaired.” Link

“a rare find. bought in the late 80′s and it sounded great…although its a monophonic synth. unfortunatly someone stole the rack, which powers up the synth. i’ve heard that there is a comparable power supply from radio shack. in a nut shell, it worked before the power unit was stolen so i havent played it since the early 90′s. please buy at own risk since i can tell you it worked but i cant guarantee it since its been so long. this is my baby and i dont want to sell it but lost job and i need the money.online searches showed me that they are going for $2,000 to $1,700…but since i dont have the power supply, it will be a great find for someone at a good price. these are very hard to find so consider yourselves lucky..lol. this is the musical instrument that ushered in the electronic music era, the moog was the first proffesional grade synthesizer and was very popular with serious musicians like james brown, herbie hancock, and a few more musicians.” Link

“This auction is for a Fine, Vintage, Moog Liberation Keytar Synthesizer which comes in its original case (no key) with power supply, power cord, amp cord and strap.
Serial numbers for the Moog Liberation synthesizers began with 1001 and the serial number of this unit is 1182. This is a one-owner keytar that was purchased by the owner in 1981.
This unit is in fine physical and operating condition and the action of all the keys is excellent.
There are two exceptions to the above description.
The small lever of one mixer called “Noise” has broken off although there is just enough left so that it can be moved and is functional, but it takes a deliberate effort and could not be moved quickly in performance.
The other exception is cosmetic, and as our photos show, the owner has covered the ends of the white keys on the keyboard with a camouflage material. (The material has come off of one key.)
We are not sure if this was for simple aesthetic purposes, or if it also served to reduce the slipperiness of the keys in performance.
Beyond that, this great classic Keytar Synthesizer is GOOD TO GO!” Link

“This is a 1980′s keytar style synth. The device is black in color and comes with the original case, power supply, and owners manual. The latches on both ends of the case work, but there is no key for the locks. The middle 2 latches on the case will need replaced. The manual is complete, but yellowed and coffee stained. I am not the original owner of the device and cannot give you a complete history. I have owned it since 2000 and it has been lightly used or stored since then. Prior to that it was owned (not used as far back as I can remember, but stored) by a high school band. It was obviously put to good use at some point in its life. The finish on the bottom is worn along the edges(see pics). All knobs, switches, sliders, and keys work. Some of the pots are scratchy and I assume to be affecting the sound of the unit. I don’t have a good reference for what the device is supposed to sound like, so I cannot say for sure. All the keys produce an output when played.” Link
