“Oberheim DX Drum Machine w/ Electrongate MIDI upgrade

Working but has some issues:

1. The memory becomes corrupted every few times the unit is powered up. Sometimes it doesn’t happen for weeks, sometimes it will happen every power-up. When it does happen, you are prompted to reset the memory. This clears settings, patterns, etc and then the machine functions normally until the next occurrence of the problem. For whatever it’s worth, this problem did not occur before the MIDI upgrade was installed

2. The TOMS channel has a hum. It won’t be heard when the volume fader for that channel is turned down. It’s not particularly loud but is noticeable.

Otherwise it seems to be in fine condition as you can see from the photos. Has all of the original sound ROMs as far as I can tell. The MIDI input/output as well as MIDI sync work well. This particular DX could be very useful to someone looking to use it as a MIDI module

A paper DX manual is included and I believe there is a manual for the MIDI upgrade online. There is a cheat-sheet sticker on the top of the unit (see pics) that explains what menu options correspond to MIDI functions” Link

“Up for auction is a Vintage Oberheim DX Programmable, Digital Drum Machine in good, full working condition (D41721) There are 18 clear sounds and all of them work, no scratchy noise, and the volume faders work with no problems at all and the overall performance is 100%. This unit comes without the power cord, unless I can find it of course. All of the switches work, but one of the switches on the back, has part of it missing, but you can still switch it on and off, to replace it, it’s a standard .75 plastic replacement part and all you need is a screwdriver, I would do it, but my daughter is ill and I just don’t have the time. I also can provide you with a PDF version of the copied manual. ” Link

“One Vintage Oberheim DX drum machine for auction. I am the original owner and used this unit back in the day to add drum tracks to songs on my Teac and Tascam multitrack tape recorders. The sync to tape feature always worked well in syncing the drums up with the song. I have read that this unit can also be converted to Midi. The Oberheim DX series was one of the first brands to actually have sampled drum sounds instead of synthesized. Even by todays standards the drum samples still sound great and have a vintage flair. I forgot how nice this unit sounds until I plugged it in to test it – as it was stored in my attic for more than a decade. Everything still works fine as far as I can tell. The perc section has a clave and agogo bell chip by Digi Drums instead of the original shaker and clap. These sounds were more useful to me for more of an Island sound. Included with the DX drum machine is the owners manual, sync to tape manual, DX factory sequences cassette, power cord, and the original box.” Link

“DX Programmable Digital Drum machine was made in the 1980′s and was one of the first professional digital drum machines on the market, capable of recording and storing programmed rhythms; it can hold 100 sequences in memory. It has large faders , buttons and separate outputs for all voices. It is MIDI upgradeable and accepts expansion chips and cards.

The ‘bass’, ‘snare’, ‘hi-hat’, ‘toms’, ‘cymbal’ and ‘perc’ functions – they all work, can be controlled by their volume controls and sound great via their individual outputs and ‘mono mix output’, connected to the amp.

The machine is very clean with no scratches nor dents. No manuals nor a schematic, sorry.

I don’t have a cassette nor any other attachment to the machine – the rest of the functions could not be checked and were inactive, so the machine is being sold ‘AS IS”" Link

“Up for auction is an Oberheim DX Drum Machine

Cosmetically it is in Excellent Condition, as pics show.

The unit has MIDI, it is the original factory installation.

Functionally, all works except:

The tempo light and function are apparently not working.

However, you can still use the edit parameter to access the MIDI and tape sync functions.

There are no factory programs inside as I had replaced them with my own.

However, I cleared the memory and have recorded a few beats as samples and it works properly.

The unit has 2 ZIF sockets inside for easy chip replacement.

I will include a Digi Drums Chip DX 070 Tambourine/Rim (as pictured) which can be swapped in and out to replace the percussion shakers and claps.” Link

“Up for auction, an Oberheim DX. Easy to operate classic drum machine. These came out in about 1982.

Individual outputs and tuning knobs for each voice as well as the sliders give it great flexibility for live work.

External trigger input, this is a pre-midi unit.

Features a number of human like feel effects such as a great swing function, rolls, flams and other weird time signatures and grooves.

It has been used by New Order, Apollo 440, Daft Punk, Jimi Tenor etc., etc. and is great for getting that old skool Hip Hop sound.

“Up for bid is a vintage Oberheim DX drum machine in good condition. I am the second owner and have had this item since 1987. This machine is outfitted with rack mount adapters. The original wood side panels are long gone and were not included when I originally purchased this unit.

Unfortunately, when the original lithium battery died it wiped the memory. The sequences would need to be reprogrammed, but the original drums sounds are still there. A local technician replaced the battery, along with one of the outputs, just two weeks ago. Everything else is original and is working as it should.

I don’t know where to find original factory data since Oberheim went out of business years ago. I recommend visiting websites like vintagesynth.com or sonicstate.com and check the forums for members who specialize in that sort of thing. ” Link

IT DOES LIGHT UP WHICH IS A GOOD THING AND SOUNDS COME OUT OF IT. MEDIUM AND SOFT BASS, LOW TOMS AND PERC SHAKER 1 OR 2 IS ALL THE SOUNDS I CAN GET OUT OF IT RIGHT NOW WITH THE ABILITY TO TUNE THESE SOUNDS. I BOUGHT THIS USED AT A MUSIC STORE A COUPLE YEARS AGO FOR OVER $250 AND JUST NEVER GOT TIME TO GET TO IT. SO WHEN I RECENTLY WENT TO RECORD WITH IT I WAS DISAPPOINTED. I AM SELLING NOW HOPING SOMEONE CAN GET SOME USE OUT OF THIS SUPREME MACHINE. LIKE I SAID BEFORE THIS IS SOLD AS IS. NOT WORKING BUT TURNS ON. IT MIGHT JUST BE USER ERROR. “For sale is a used Oberheim DX Stretch model vintage digital drum machine. The DX Stretch features the standard DX drum machine with an additional four drum sounds added by the Stretch section. This unit is in great working condition for its age. All functions of the DX section work great but 2 of the pads of the Stretch section aren’t working. This doesn’t mean the entire voice is out…..just one tuning of a sound and one volume level pad of another is out. Other than that everything else about this vintage drum machine works great!!! It features MIDI and has individual outputs and tuning pots on the rear panel for each sound. It’s in absolutely fantastic cosmetic condition as can be seen in the close-up photos. If you want to program beats like early hip-hop and classic 80s pop then this is what you’re looking for. Due to the age of this item (over 25 years) I can provide no warranty or guarantee that it will work forever. It hasn’t given me any problems besides the ones stated previously. Also includes power cable, DX manual, Stretch manual and installation instructions in case you wish to remove the Stretch portion. The EEPROMS included are DX Kick, DMX Snare 6, DX Hat, DX Tom, Shaker 2 + Clap, Crash (cymbal socket only), Long Ride (cymbal socket only), Electric Tom 3, Fat Electronic Snare, Tambourine + Rim Shot, Tabla, Triangle, African Drum, Click (cymbal socket only), Long Noise (cymbal socket only), and Electronic Snare. That’s a lot of sounds and there are companies out there on the web that will burn new EEPROMS with just about any percussion sound you want to use in the DX Stretch.” Link

Up for sale is a vintage Oberheim DX drum machine. It is the DMX’s little brother!
This drum machine comes loaded with vintage 8 bit samples stored on eproms for the classic 80′s crunch!
It has 6 mono outs, plus stereo sum outs and a mono sum out. It also produces a click/metronome trigger.

The machine includes the midi upgrade and I will throw in some extra eprom chips so you can switch out the drum sounds. I have also fitted the drum machine with thumb screws so that the eproms may be easily accessed.

The machine is generally is in very good cosmetic condition and working order with one exception. The Hi-Hat Accent button does not work. Otherwise the machine is in good working order. ” Link

“The Oberheim DX is the improved version of the classic DMX. It’s basically the same as the DMX but in an updated exterior with some extra features. The DX has individual tuning knobs for the drum tones as well as an external trigger input. Its sounds are sampled recordings of actual instruments. It has 18 drum sounds and 6 voices/outputs for easy studio use. Best of all it is really easy and intuitive to operate.

This unit is in great condition. It functions perfectly and shows some wear and tear. One minor flaw (check pictures) is that one of the screws on the right side plate wore through the wood side plate, allowing it to move slightly. This doesn’t affect its function at all and isn’t noticeable unless you play with the side plate” Link

once I find them. Please ask any and all questions before bidding, please be serious about bidding . I do expect payment in three days. thank you

“Oberheim DX drum machine manufactured in the early 80′s. This unit uses samples of real drum kits; although it is 100% analog. It has been used by many artists including Prince, Skinny Puppy, and the Tear Garden. This unit has no midi. It also has no memory at the moment, likely due to a bad battery. The onboard sequencer works but is erased when powered off.. I have been using it for sampling only. The play button also sticks.

The unit sounds sounds great. All of the drum sounds are tuneable via knobs on the back panel. The front panel has 3 buttons for each drum; one for each of the 3 available velocities. There are 2 main outs and 6 separate outs; one for each drum sound. All of them are 1/4 inch TS. You can also buy eprom cards to change the factory drum sounds to different ones. The factory drum sounds are bass, snare, closed hi-hat, open hi-hat, claps…and tamborine” Link

“For sale my classic Oberheim DX drum machine.

This drum machine needs no introduction. Its a true classic which helped define music in the 1980s. This one is the 3rd version of this range which has the wooden sides and has MIDI in and out so integrates well into a modern midi setup. I have been using this in my small home studio but have decided to sell. Cosmetically in good condition for its age and working great. I found this the best drum machine i have used and has humanizing features which make it very real sounding. As i only sell good gear, i have just had this serviced professionally by Synth Repair Services in Staffordshire. Its had all but 2 buttons replaced, all sliders cleaned and a new tuning pot for the bass drum. This should give many years of service and i will include the original service invoice as proof. “Up on the auction block: Vintage Oberheim DX Drum Machine!

The DX, introduced in 1983, is the “lite” version of the legendary DMX drum machine. It is essentially the same drum machine as it’s big brother, the only major difference being that the DX only has 18 drum sounds and 6 voice polyphony. Still has the amazing functionality of individual outputs for each drum voice in addition to the stereo mix output. Also, these are samples of actual instruments, so they have a very rich tone. The other really cool feature is the ability to tune each sample (check my audio samples below)! This gives you lots of options when sculpting your beats!

This drum machine is in fully operational condition. Cosmetically, it is very clean, with no major scratches or chips. The only minor cosmetic issue is some light rack rash on the bottom of the unit (see pic), but again, this is minor. This drum machine has been well cared for and only saw studio use.” Link

“This Oberheim DX drum machine is in pretty good cosmetic shape. All the buttons and sliders have been tested for functionality and everything is in working order. All the sounds trigger and features such as quantize, measure, record and stop and play all work as they should. I don’t know how old the battery is but the unit still stores patterns fine. All the LED lights work as they should except the LED on the swing button, I think it’s burned out or disconnected. The swing button still works, just the LED indicator light doesn’t. One of the exterior cooling fins is bent and below it, where the power cord plugs in is bent a little. This doesn’t interfere with plugging the power cord in and the jack is solid. I love the way this machine sounds and how incredibly easy it is to program, but don’t like the idea of storing important song data on cassette tape. I will regret selling this, but that the reason I am. ” Link

“You are bidding on an Oberheim DX drum machine that is in excellent working order. It is fully functioning and there are no glitches or other problems that I am aware of. The sound chips currently contained in this unit consist of the following:

1. Kick position: TR-808 Kick

2. Snare position: Original DX Snare

3. Hi-Hat position: Original DX Hi-hat

4. Toms position: DX Electric Snare (purchased through Electrongate)

5. Cymbals position: DX Handclaps (purchased through Electrongate) (Note: Three blank chips are inserted so that all three triggers for claps give a sound, each with a different clap “pitch.” This is what Electrongate told me I needed to do and it worked perfectly).

6. Perc. Position: Cowbell/Rimshot/Percussion hit

In addition to these chips, the following five extra chips are also included with this DX:

-DX IF0 CRASH

-CRASH DX IF1

-CRASH DX IF2

-CRASH DX IF3

-ELECTRIC GUITAR

This is a non-midi unit but a new midi add-on kit is now available for about $100 through a company called Electrongate. Two GREAT things about this drum machine are the individual output for EACH drum position (see back photo) and the external tuning pots for each drum (they are internal on the DMX if I am not mistaken). I used the individual outputs to great advantage, running each through a separate input on a multi channel effects process (also for sale in a separate auction). This way I could add reverb to the snare, compress the hi-hat, delay the percussion hits, etc., etc.

As stated the unit is in excellent condition, with some minor scuffs that can be expected on a unit of this age/vintage. ” Link

“This is my pride and joy. A mint condition Oberheim DX Drum Machine, which I had serviced a month and 1/2 ago.

Fully functional, memory works perfect, all knobs, buttons, faders and audio jacks work. The inside of this unit is amazingly clean.

Kept in a smoke-free environment for its lifetime.

The only think is it has a few small surface scratches, I mean it is from 1982, that is why I’m still calling this mint.

I bought this unit from an amazing vintage synth dealer in New Jersey who I have become good friends with. ” Link
