“My beloved DX 7. I’ve owned this synth from new, it has never been out of the studio.

It is in tip top condition (even the Floppy Disc Drive works)

Comes with 1 ROM cartage, the original Floppy disc protector, manual and if collected, I will chuck in the fitted flight case. ” Link

“This is a real classic. The second generation of the ever famous DX7. It’s been around the block and has quite a few scratches on the bottom especially but still works great. This keyboard comes with the memory cartridge and I believe there are some sounds on it. Don’t know a whole lot about this keyboard but I know it works. Nice action.” Link

“I actually have TWO of these. THIS ONE DOES NOT WORK! The other one does. (It’s available in a separate auction). This is the FD model. It has the Grey Matter E! modification which add a 16 track sequencer, allows you to stack or split up to 8 patches at once, and it has a chord mode, all explained by the manual.

I’m fairly certain that the power supply died, since it won’t power up. Before it did this it was working perfectly. It’s in quite good shape cosmetically. Some scratches but nothing major. The screen is in excellent condition.

Some of the patch selection buttons are slightly tempermental. This is a common issue with these old DX models. The buttons all work, it’s just some of them need pushed harder than the others. It’s not a problem for me. If it’s a problem for you, buy my other DX7 IID and use this one for parts.

I used this one to the max in bands I played in in the ’80s. I’ll include the RAM4 cartridge, disks, the original manual, and a very beat up road case. I’m great at packing things up so it will be secure. ” Link

“I’m the original owner and did use it quite a bit in night clubs back in the 80′s and early 90′s. I always kept it covered or in its custom vinal foam lined case, of which I’m including. The case is a little worn but kept this instrument in excellent condition. The synth has no noticeable blemishes and everything seems to be working perfectly. I gave it a test run for a couple of hours and it didn’t even get warm and still sounded awesome. Some of the buttons have to be pushed a little harder to engage, probably because it hasn’t been played in about 18 years. I didn’t check the disc drive but I presume it still works.

I’m also including a Yamaha FC7 expression/voltage pedal, a dust cover, music rack and several RAM and ROM cartridges including the adaptor cartridge for using the old original DX7 carts, and some 3.5″ floppy discs loaded with many sounds/patches.

Also, I’m including all the original supplemental FM programmer booklets that were mailed to me after I bought it. Including the owners manual there are 19 of these. They can get pretty technical but are a great way to learn how to use this amazing synth and for studying FM digital programming techniques.” Link

“Yamaha DX-7II FD with Grey Matter Expansion Board. Needs battery replaced, I think.

$125 starting bid and no reserve price. May the best Ebayer win! :>)

- Works, but losses the patches every once in while. According to info on the internet, this is common when the battery needs to be replaced. The guy I got it from a while back says that he had the battery changed out, but it was long time ago. about three screws are missing from the bottom, so tend to believe him. :>)

It only takes a minute to reload the patches – and then it’s good to go for a while. It’s been used in the studio, rather than being a gig board, so it hasn’t been a big deal. If you know how to change the battery, this might be a great buy for you.

- LED display works perfectly, all the keys are intact and work fine.
- Loaded with factory sounds, plus the ones on the Grey Matter E! board.
- Some minor scratches on the bottom where the bottom rested on the keyboard stand.
- One scratch on the front near the data entry keys on the left hand side of the board. Doesn’t show up on the picture.
- Comes with the original disk and memory cartridge.
- No case, sorry.” Link

There is a damage to the casing on the lower left corner. A piece of plastic has broken off, exposing internal. See picture below (last one shows the damage). Synthesizer functions are not affected. I tested quite a few sounds and controls and they are all working correctly.

The left most key is sometime sticky, and can’t be relied upon in performance. All other keys play well.

“I’m selling this for a friend who doesn’t have eBay.

It’s a working Yamaha DX7 II FD synthesiser.

It’s just recently had a new battery fitted and I’ve loaded it up with patches so it makes sounds!

I have tested all the keys and most of the buttons but I can’t test the floppy drive nor the cartridge slot but everything seems to be where it should be so I would assume it’s working okay.

I’ve taken a picture of the keys as one seems to be a little higher than the rest, down the left side of the keyboard, it’s the lowest A key, but all of the keys are working fine so I assume it’s just a cosmetic thing.” Link

I’m moving and consequently downsizing my studio so unfortunately this baby has to go. :( This is a great synth for the advanced or newbie player. FM synthesis was a breakthrough technology in the 80s and many famous artists used this synth…Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson, Tears For Fears, Depeche Mode, etc. The unit is CLEAN!!

Comes with FACTORY CARTRIDGE for Voice and Performance Patches

“The DX7 II-D is basically two original DX7′s in one package, with much better controls (actual buttons, not just membrane), and enhanced implementation including 32 Performance modes, 64 Internal patches and 64 RAM/ROM cartridge patches. The DX7 is the first successful digital synthesizer, using FM (Frequency Modulation) and 32 different algorithms which arrange 6 sine-wave operators each. It is a completely different method of synthesis from analog or other digital methods, and it made history when it was introduced in 1983.

This synthesizer is in mint condition, never gigged, and just had a new battery installed. (Which means you’ll have to put some programs in the internal sound banks as the patches were scrambled).

Features include:
much nicer user interface
16 voice polyphony
61-key touch- and pressure-sensitive keyboard
Sine/Square/Tri/SAW up/SAW Down/Random
Programmable 6-operator x 2 (A & B) 32-algorithm digital FM tone generator
LFO shapes Sine/Square/Tri/SAW up/SAW Down/Random
Six 8-parameter VCA Envelope generators
Single/Split/Layer options for keyboard channel assignments

This synthesizer never ceased to amaze me in the variety of sounds it can create, and you’ll be amazed too. You’ll have the 2nd Generation DX7 II-D – the one Yamaha got right, thankfully.” Link

“YAMAHA DX7 II FD digital synthesizerwith E! expansion board. Vintage, programmable, electronic keyboard instrument. Excellent condition, one non-smoking owner. Many extras.

I purchased this vintage Yamaha DX7 II FD synthesizer new in 1987. I used it in my non-smoking, home piano studio and occasionally at my local church. The unit is clean and in excellent working condition.

I had the Grey Matter E! board installed by the Yamaha dealer. This expansion board adds a 16-track sequencer and increases the polyphony of the keyboard.

The internal battery was professionally replaced earlier this month (July 2011). All the keys, buttons, wheels and sliders work.

Included in this auction are the following accessories and material:

The original printed Yamana DX7 II owner’s manual.
The original Grey Matter E! owner’s manual.

It comes with a hard case but not original case, i got when i bought it from a friend to carry it.
The hard case is useable but not in a great condition.” Link

“Yamaha DX7 IID fully functional.

It’s loaded with phat sounds.

It comes with manual – though the cover is missing

It comes with three cards – 2 Ram cards (can’t seem to get one of these functioning correctly – probably just me) and one ROM card which has factory defaults that you cannot save over.

Condition of the unit is good to very good but by no means mint.
On the right hand side after the last key there has been some rubbing on the paint so it’s rubbed down and smother, this is only visible in certain light. There are also very small areas where the previous owner painted over some scratches, I think that’s better then seing scratches though and again this is only visible in certain light.” Link

” Link

“Yamaha DX7 IID 61 Key Synthesizer

I bought this used a year ago and have hardly played it. It is in great condition physically and cosmetically. The only issue that I have had with it is that the low Bb key sticks sometimes. I think it will only require cleaning to correct this, but since I have driven this synth through MIDI, I haven’t worried with it.

This is a great synth with some cool vintage sounds!” Link

Pictures are of the actual item in this auction. The item in this auction is in excellent condition and comes with everything pictured. NOTE: The Grey Matter E! installed does not work anymore, but the keyboard is fully-functional otherwise. Semi-hard carrying case exterior has some minor spots with discoloration but has been cleaned and is in decent condition, as well as the inside of the case being cleaned.” Link

“So – Thanks for looking at my listing for a Yamaha DX7IIFD. I recently acquired it, and after a few months of use, I decided it’s not for me. It’s great, I love it, but space is limited (as you can see from the pics) so it’s time for this to find a better home, and me to find a different synth!

What to say – how about: WHO DOESN’T WANT A TWO-PART MULTITIMBRAL DX7?????
More info from vintage synth:

To sum: If you don’t know what this board can do – it’s not for you. This is to me one of the finest machines ever made, and I’m sad to see it go, it just doesn’t fit for what I want to do. So hopefully it’s exactly what you’re looking for!” Link

“I am the original owner of this DX7IIFD. Bought it new in 1987 for about $3500. I never gigged in a band with it. When not sitting in my house I used it at my church in our contemporary services. I have never had any problem with it, but have not used it for a number of years. I powered it up and loaded sounds from various disks and it worked fine. I have taken good care of this keyboard, and there are hardly any marks on it. The auction includes:

Yamaha DX7IIFD with Grey Matter E board.

Black padded soft case.

Yamaha FC-1 foot control pedal.

Original plug in RAM and ROM cartridges.

A small, about 3 1/2″ x 3 1/2″ Roland sustain pedal (I don’t have the original similar Yamaha pedal).

Operating manuals as pictured for the DX7IIFD and the DX7IIFD with “E”.

An internal battery (it’s a standard currently used battery).

Several Sound Source Unlimited sound disks as pictured.

A Valhala sound disk.

A CD with a DX7 sound editor.

Several boxes of 3 1/2″ double sided double density disks.

Backup disks of the SSU sound disks.

Miscellaneous DX7 documentation sheets” Link

“For sale I have a Yamaha DX7 II-FD FM synthesizer. It is fully working and in good condition. Sounds great, just like the original DX7 but generally better built and a little easier to use. Some minor scratches that are typical of something of this era. I checked the battery when I had it open and it appears in good condition and to be delivering the proper voltage.

Includes the (somewhat rare but extremely useful) Grey Matter expansion board installed. It is version 1.20. Also included are extra “E or B” keys and the highest “C” key, oem from Yamaha in packaging, in case you should ever need additional keys for repair. It also has an extra “VoiceRom” cartridge labeled, “DECAY group” which contains additional sounds.

This is a great keyboard and I’d keep it around, but it just isn’t fitting into my workflow which is built mainly around a modular synth. ” Link
