“Yamaha CS-30 analog synthesizer, excellent condition, has never left Japan, complete with the original hard case. Features dual oscillators, 44 keys and a built-in eight step sequencer.

The Yamaha CS line are sought after for their amazing sound. Good specimens are getting harder and harder to come by, but this one definitely qualifies as a GREAT specimen.

This unit works just fine with standard 110V USA power. There is NO RUST around the audio outputs (as is often found on older gear). The keys are nice and white with no cracks. The case has a few nicks here and there but is in excellent structural condition, especially for a unit that is over 30 years old. The handle covering is peeling a bit (see the photo on right lower side), but still works just fine.” Link

“This monophonic synth was a classic in its day, creating amazing analogue effects and sounds, and includes an 8 note analogue sequencer. It is covered in knobs and buttons giving you direct access to the sound sculpting features and routers without the need for patch leads. The knobs were regularly used with the pitch bender to add excellent effects to lead lines.

The condition is good, and commensurate with age. There are a few bumps and scratches which are not serious or unsightly. The synth works fine, but has some minor crackles / noise when some of the knobs are turned, which is inevitable with an instrument of this age (1980’s).

In a nut shell, it has two main oscillators generating various wave forms (square, ramp, saw tooth, pulse etc.) with a third sine wave generator to add depth or fatten the sound. It has a white noise generator and an external input which can be treated from the filter onwards. There is a ring modulator, Low frequency oscillator (LFO), three envelope generators(EG), pitch bender, portomento control and 8 note sequencer. The combinations and routing potential is vast with practically everything being able to be driven through the LFO and EGs.” Link

“decided to let go of my beloved cs-30 synth. functions perfect, looks great. about a little over a year ago it was gone over by a tech and serviced so it should be top notch for many years. if your looking at this i’m assuming your aware how awesome of a mono-synth this is. absolute beast. this is a very vintage item so sold as-is. thanx for looking :) Link

CS-30, Yamaha @ 25 November 2011, “No Comments”

“Overall, the synth is in outstanding condition. There are tiny marks that prevent this from being listed as mint (i.e. as it left the Yamaha factory in 1977), but they are very minor. Just below the power switch, there are 3 tiny pinhead marks, which are only visible from certain angles as you will notice from the photographs attached. On the lower front panel below the keyboard, there is a small mark on each side where the synth has rested on a keyboard frame at some point. I have tried to photograph these, which was not easy, as they are only visible from certain angles.

All knobs, buttons and switches are present, original and function correctly.

All keys are clean and aligned and contact correctly.

The unit was tested today and the synth is working as it should be: 100% functional and the tuning is rock solid.

Power: This is a 100v model so will be shipped with the stepdown transformer I have used here in the UK.” Link

“This is a cosmetically gorgeous and near mint example of a very complex but fabulous synth, however this gave up the ghost some weeks back, and have not the time to repair and quite honestly need to start concentrating on other synths so the Yammie drew the short straw. Sequencer lights working fine, so power is there but no sound from either channel. Its a 110v but i’ll include a step down transformer” Link

Link

“Great sounding with a vast range of possibilities for sound shaping and modulation based experimentation. It can be punchy and fast, richly textured or funky as hell. The closest you get to a semi-modular without patch cords. The two filters are just marvellous.

So, why am I selling? Am now moving to a much more streamlined setup, so this has to go, along with some other good stuff which will be appearing over the next weeks.” Link

“This is the sale of my Yamaha CS30 Analogue Synthesizer.

As you would appreciate this is a really old (over 30 years!) synth and as I have not played it for a long time, the condition is as expected.

It fires up okay. Makes noise and all controls responds though it makes noises when you turn the controls. All keyboard work.
There are 3 selector switches broken. Namely

VCO2 SEQ/KBD switch
VCA1 HOLD/EG switch
Sequencer CLOCK/MANUAL switch

You can play around a lot with it as it is, but you would really benefit from a proper resto or a service.

It is an import from Japan. So 100V, but I will include a transformer so you can use it straight away.” Link

“verkaufe einen

YAMAHA CS 30 Analog-Synthesizer & Step-Sequenzer

———————————————————————–

” Link

“Basic synth functionality has been tested. The unit powers up and plays well. Has been tested both through the keyboard, and through the sequencer.

There are no major scratches or marks, but the portamento slider has been replaced with a different cap, and the pitch bend cap is missing. Other than those hopefully minor things, the overall condition is really good. Comes in a flight case too.” Link

Up for auction is my Yamaha CS30, in excellent condition.

It has been well looked after and is a knob invested analogue synth,

with a built in 8 step sequencer for people who really love to tweak and get personal.

I bought this for it’s amazing sounds and onboard sequencer.

I’ve looked on youtube to give an idea of it’s potential, but not really

found anything to do it justice.

People have under rated this synth due to the MS20, which I’ve also had.

They both have their pro’s and con’s.

If you like lots of patch cables hanging out all over the place the MS20 is great.

But if you want a tidier more immediate synth the CS30 is definately for you.

I cannot describe all it’s functions but…..

It is built just like a hard wired version of a patch modular system.

Reviews have said it is an odd layout to get your head around…Not True.

Each section has to be looked at in vertical rows for adjustment as you head towards the A.D.S.R section on the right.” Link

“For sale here is the Yamaha CS-30 analogue synthesizer. This incredible sounding synth is in excellent mechanical and cosmetical condition. It has been professinally serviced!! All capacitators, voltage regulators and other delicate parts were replaced by new ones, all faders, pots, and contacts have been cleaned, a calibration was done, the power was converted to 220 Vollt, the in and outside was thoroughly cleaned,…. Cosmetically this synth is almost perfect. All original knobs, faders, and other parts are still there. There are only some minor scratches visible but overall this synth looks excellent (more pictures will follow). To make it complete, an original Yamaha CS-30 case is included” Link

“rare opportunity to own a truly unique classic synth

two VCOs
two VCFs, both with low-pass, band-pass and high-pass
two VCAs
three envelope generators
ring modulator and LFO

more flexibilty that you average synth, the cs-30 can route signals beyond the usual VCO-VCF-VCA signal path.
offering features found in modular system.
envelope generators can be assigned to the VCO, VCF and VCA
has voltage and trigger inputs and outputs
external signal in can be used as a modulation source, as well as the usual filter treatment
modulation of audio with other audio frequencies is a feature found commonly in software, this is analog doing it!

take the audio output and run it back into the external input. create anything from feedback and distortion to ring modulation, subtle to destructive complex effects

properties of signals are not decided at the source of the signal, but rather at the target of the signal. This means you can use more than one oscillator waveform, use both polarities of envelopes, or use any LFO waveform anywhere.

as you can see, the synth is covered in knobs! the possibilites could take 100s of pages to describe.

the long and short of it – a lot more sonic and creative possibilites than most analog synths, unless you go for a very expensive modular system.

this one is in as near mint condition as is possible for a synth that came out in 1977.

a pleasure to work with and a unique sound ” Link

“Up for auction, Yamaha CS-30 analog synthesizer. Used in my smoke free home studio, in very good condition and excellent working order. Beside a side panel that is cracked and does not affect the performance there is nothing else standing out, just a couple of very minor scratches. Everything you need to create any crazy sounds is in your fingertips, a very cool 8 step analog sequencer is also onboard, also audio input to run your sounds through the filter.
Comes with original travel case. The synth is from Japan and works on 100v, you will need a stepdown transformer to use it in 220~240 countries.” Link

it’s like a modular synth without patch cords
connecting each section by using mini select switch like semi modular system synth
it has very flexible routing between each modules

cs30 “The CS-30 is an awesome and powerful synth. It is set up differently than any other synthesizer I have ever played, and is more akin to a modular synth than a standard hardwired synth.

You get two VCO’s, a ring mod, tons of modulation possibilities and an amazingly fun sequencer. The filters on these are NASTY. The most biting highpass I have ever heard.

The CS is set up for US voltage so you will not need a transformer. Cosmetically it looks great, no real defects to name, just a small nick here and there. Internally in is working 99%. The only problem being that there is a loose wire on VCA2 that makes the VCA act intermittent if moved around. It’s a simple solder job, that I would feel more comfortable not doing and having a professional do. There are two VCA’s in the CS. Otherwise, everything on the CS is great and works perfectly.” Link

Foreign bidders welcome! Payment in advance via bank transfer only and within 7 days after auction closing. ” Link

Link 8D3FCED1CF4C4168BE59575A1C42E6BDEBF4F66D88514250AAA69D7EB6285FF9

“Gargantuan analog monosynth from the good old days. Very flexible (and confusing) for a non-modular. Feature-wise, as far as i know, it’s the same as the CS-30, but without the simple sequencer. Looks completely different, though.

For the most part fully working, but for some reason the LFO won’t work when set to square or s/h. The sound changes, but it doesn’t “move”. Sine and saw works fine.
Also, I don’t have any expression pedal, so I’ve not been able to test the Volume and Brilliance inputs on the back panel.
Aside from that, everything works as far as I can tell. I’ve tested it pretty thoroughly, but since it’s rather complex I may have missed (or mis-understood…) something. Sold as-is.

Cosmetically, there is some scratches and rust here and there, and 3 of the faders to the left of the keyboard are missing their plastic caps. Also, one of the hinges for the lid is missing. Overall, while it’s not exactly beautiful, it’s not in horrible condition either.

Comes with case lid and power cable. No manual (but it’s available online) and no legs.

100V model, so it will need a power converter to work with other voltages. I can include a converter (230V or 110V) for an extra $25 (haven’t been able to find any cheaper here, sorry), or the buyer can get one elsewhere. It may work on 110V without a converter, but I make no guarantees.” Link
