” Yamaha CS-15 Analog Synthesizer in great shape!! All knobs are there, a few scratchy pots that will most likely right themselves after a little twidling. All keys sound. Missing one slider cap shown in pic #2 (slider on right side). Great analog synth for any collector/player!

Even though everything works as it should, due to it’s age it is being sold as is. ” Link

“Up for auction is my beloved Yamaha CS-15 synthesizer… a dual-oscillator sleeper!
Set for 220V operation

Functionality is absolutely perfect, apart from one small thing… the filter selector switch (HP/LP/BP) is fiddly on each filter section, as in it sometimes needs a bit of a wiggle to sit on the right setting

Cosmetically it’s great, bar a few things which i’ve showed in the photos, there is a small crack in the casing above the portamento slider, and the decal has worn off on the brilliance slider (essentially a master filter controller)

I’m sure if you’re looking then you know all about this synth, but if not, i’ll tell you it’s fantastic. There’s two of everything! apart from the LFO. Really flexible signal routing” Link

“Up for auction is my Yamaha CS15 synth in road worn but working condition. In fact it’s in pretty much the same condition as it was when I bought it 20 years ago, I immediately flight cased it to prevent further damage.

The damage already done to this machine was mainly to the very thin slider controls which were made from very soft metal. ALL these are in some way damaged but all of them still work and are entirely operable. There is a broken pot shaft (illustrated).

The instrument powers via an internal power supply and has a long mains cable – no wall warts on these!

There are inputs for external control – these are NOT the same system as a moog, I have never used this with a Kenton etc, if you have questions about how to do this, I am not the man to ask.

Keyboard is fine. Control panel is OK with the occasional dirty pot, you already know that switch cleaner will help.

Do NOT bid on this instrument if you don’t know what it is!!!…..
It is NOT a midi instrument and does not connect to your iphone with a USB cable!
It DOES NOT immediately produce “PHAT BASS GROOVES” whatever those may be.
It has NO memories!!! You make all the sounds yourself!!
It only plays ONE NOTE AT A TIME – no chords – highest note takes priority
It is heavy, complicated, clicky and buzzy, slightly battered and totally wonderful.” Link

“I dont know anything about synthesizers. I turn it on- it works. Starting from the left hand side of the keyboard the first and 5th white keys dont seem to work. All other keys seem to work. I tried turning the many many many knobs and they all seem to do some affect to the sound. Last two photos show the minor scuffing that an instrument of this age would show. As 2nd photo shows- is missing little slider knob–but slider works fine. It is sold as is. Call me if you want me to test a certain aspect of this fine synth. ” Link

“YAMAHA CS15 Synthesizer. Completely original with no missing parts and in excellent condition.

Owned by me since it was new in 1980.

Only ever used at home, this has led a pampered life with, in all honesty, very little use.

A nearly infinite variation is available via the vast amount of control you have over the creation of your sound.

An awesome machine, it works as well today as it did 30 years ago.

I can vouch for this as I have just given it a good workout!

All other items in the photos like the stand, the table and the cat etc are not included in the sale.” Link

“Yamaha CS-15 Vintage Analog Synth – in fantastic condition and fully working. All knobs and sliders intact.

I can’t imagine this synth has seen a great deal of action in it’s 31 year life. You have to look really hard to see any blemishes at all!! As you may already know it really does sound fantastic.. In a world of software synths this is like a breath of fresh air, especially for basses.” Link

“You are bidding for a Vintage 1978 Yamaha CS-15 Analog Synthesizer. It is in absolutely fantastic condition for its age (please see the photos), it would be very hard to find one like this, almost in new condition. It is fully working and has great analog lead and bass tones. It is practically 2 analog synthesizers in one, it contains nearly 2 of everything (excluding the LFO, which is the fastest LFO I’ve ever heard from any of the analog synths I have owned) it has 2 VCOs, 2 VCFs (both selectable Hi, band, low pass) and 2 EGs! It was a very tough decision to sell this or my Roland SH-101, but I decided to keep the Roland only due to it’s smaller size and portability, even though the CS-15 has a lot larger range of tones and sounds. It comes complete with an original product brochure.” Link

“I have owned this beautiful synth for 1 year and has been one of the best mono synths I have owned. It has so many options with three filter types across the two filters and two oscillators and two amplifiers. Awesome for leads and bass sounds and with some reverb can make some really nice flute like sounds. This unit is 240V and I had the whole synth re-capped when I bought it so I guarantee this will last for many many years to come. It has a scratch on the back of the synth near the yamaha sign but this is very minor and hard to see as the synth is black (hopefully you can see it in the photos), plus you never look at the back of the synth but for collectors this might be an issue. The rest of the synth is in perfect condition. I highly recommend this to anyone looking for a cheaper alternative to an MS-20 or similar mono synth (often referred to as a poor mans MS-20). As powerful as the MS-20 the sound of the CS-15 is truly amazing and quite unique. I wish I did not have to get rid of this synth but to fund some monitors I need to sell it and will definitely buy one again when I get the chance to in the future. Used by Holy Ghost and Vince Clarke some of my biggest influences” Link

“A good clean example of this classic analogue synth in full working order, this synth offers a high level of programmability with independent controls for each of the two voices, such as separate pots for Cutoff Frequency and Resonance, in fact it is often said to be two CS 5′s in one unit. there are two three way filters (LP, BP, HP) and also controls which are perhaps unique to the CS series such as the Brilliance control which acts as a kind of relative setting for the filter. This synth really has a sound of its own and can really cut through the mix. I own another CS 15 so I can’t really justify holding on to this one. It has been serviced, many of the capacitors have replaced and the pots were cleaned with Deoxit.

There are a few cosmetic issues ( it is 30 years old! )

Two missing slider caps – Pitch Bend Slider & Portamento

One black key has a small burn which isn’t immediately noticeable.

It comes with 20 blank patch sheets for you to record your own patches.” Link

“This was my first big boy synth and I am a little sad to see it go, hopefully it goes to a good home.

Up for sale is a Yamaha CS 15 monophonic synthesizer (actually duophonic, but you need to connect it to CV to get the extra voice). This synth is sexy, sounds great and is built like a tank. Here are some features:

Monophonic/Duophonic

2 tunable VCOs.

1 LFO: triangle, saw, sample & hold. 0.1-100hz (!!!). This goes well into audible range.

2 VCAs

2 ADSRs.

Filters: two multi filters (HP, BP, LP), controlled either by each or both ADSRs.

Control: Dual CV/Gate

It is essentially two monophonic synths in one case, you have two of everything and a lot of routing options. There are plenty of features and versatility, this baby and it is capable of some amazing tones. Check out youtube for some in depth reviews (I won’t link directly because it is probably a violation of the TOS and I did not make the videos personally).

The synth plays excellently, The volume pot is a little scratchy, no biggie to clean but since I have zero mechanical aptitude I did not do it personally.

Cosmetically there are a few scratches on it, nothing major, mostly on the back and three on the front. Photographs included. I was thinking of painting these up at one time but I am not good at that sort of thing and would probably mess it up more.

I am also including an original Yamaha HSC with the synth.

This is a Japanese 100v synth. You will need a separate transformer for it to work on US/Euro voltage.” Link

Not just two VCO’s you also get two Mixers, two VCF’s, two VCA’s and two envelope generators

Twice as many knobs with a little less than twice the confusion

Once you get used to constructing sounds step by step you will begin to realise just how powerful this instrument is

Electrically this instrument is spot on i.e. it all works as it should

Cosmetically it is generally in very good condition apart from 3 slider caps missing and one of the keys has been glued together” Link

I have had this synth since the early 80′s and rarely used it because I am actually a guitar player. It has been sitting in the bedroom unused since the 80′s so a couple of the knobs
are a little bit scratchy (noisy) when you turn them but I am sure with a bit of use and switch cleaner they will be fine.

The only repair was a dry joint on the Portamento controller – fine know.

As you can see in one of the pictures I spilt some emulsion paint on the mains lead when I was decorating the bedroom once – I will attempt to remove most of this prior to dispatch.

The unit is in nice used condition for a vintage Synth. There are signs of use all over the Synth but nothing nasty – the pictures are very accurate. It is a bit dusty through lack of use
but all keys and controls/faders work fine – as I said the Volume knob and a couple of the VCF knobs are a little bit noisy through lack of use even though they function fine. The
Portamento Slider leans slightly to one side where is a little bent (see pic) and the black plastic slider knob on the Pitch Bend control is missing but you can buy these very cheaply.
(none of which effect functionality!)” Link

“This is a very versatile 37 key 3 octave monophonic synthesiser with higher pitch priority. It has 2 independent tuneable VCO’s producing Sine, Square or Triangle waveforms with each VCO having their own Mixer and VCF-VCA channels. There is also an in built noise generator and inputs & outputs for control volts & triggers for both VCO’s. There are controls for portamento, pitch bend & brilliance and master volume, a headphone output and high & low level audio outputs. It is a U.K. model and runs on mains voltage which is selectable for 110,130,220 or 240 volts at 50/60 Hz. (see photo No. 8)

I bought this synthesiser as a second hand item in very good condition in 1982, I used it for awhile when I had a “home studio” setup but since 1996 it has been boxed up (I do not have the original packing) and stored in a dry cupboard. It is still in very good condition & I’ve recently checked it to see it is still working OK, which it is. A couple of the rotary controls produce a little bit of “crackle” when they are turned & would probably benefit from application of a good quality switch cleaning compound.

The non-standard silver “D-Type” connector on the back panel was fitted by me as part of a project whilst studying electronics at college. I fitted an interface to the synthesiser to emulate key presses which was driven by my own sequencer software running on a Sinclair ZX Spectrum. This modification did not involve any changes to the original circuitry and I subsequently removed this interface. I left the “D-Type” connector on the back panel as I didn’t have a suitable blanking plate but there are now no internal connections to this socket. The four mounting pillars for the interface board (you might just about see them on 9th photo) were also left in place for same reason.

I have the original owners manual for the synth and an original official Yamaha service manual which contains 28 pages of full circuit diagrams, parts list, servicing and calibration information and a separate enlarged (approx 3ft. X 2ft) foldout full circuit diagram. This manual is probably more rare than the synthesiser and may be worth a fair bit on its own, however it seems like it makes sense to bundle it with the synth.” Link

“You are bidding on a vintage Yamaha CS15 analog monosynth from the late 1970s. It works 100% and is in great shape. I’m selling it for my synth tech Ramcur who serviced it recently as well as added some upgrades.

This synth has the following Solaris Upgrades :

24dB filter modifictaion /w switch for original 2 x 12 dB routing
extended LFO precision for high frequency range

This synth also has a Elektor ring mod to modulate both oscillators or one oscillator and external sounds (there’s also a mic input for the ring mod)

I’ve played with it almost everyday since I got it, the range of sounds is amazing, this is as versatile as a modular synth, the routing is incredible!!

RARE and TOTALLY VINTAGE!

In good used condition. I plugged it in and it powered right up. All keys work. I moved the knobs and buttons and they all seem to be doing their thing! I don’t really know what their “thing” is, but I know it sure made some wicked cool sounds and the knobs and buttons changed sounds when I turned/pushed them. There is a small bit of sticker residue on one side where a sticker was removed, AND on the BACK, there are a couple of stickers that I decided to leave and let the High Bidder decide to remove or keep them (see photos). “YAMAHA Vintage 1978 Monophonic Analog Synthesizer, used but in terrific condition.
All knobs, keys and functions work well. Only minor thing (which is to be expected in a 30+ year old synth!) is occasional static noise when turning a knob. This is NOT significant and does not affect the keyboard’s awesome sound quality or performance! The thing sounds amazing and the controls let you really tweak some cool sounds. I have been the sole owner of this synth since I purchased it in 1978 and have never traveled with it, so I can attest to its lifelong condition. The keyboard has never needed repairs.” Link

One exception is some kind of a scuff lower left hand corner of control panel as depicted. “Amazing Condition Yamaha CS-15 Monosynth. 2 Oscillators, 2 Filters (multimode), 2 Envelopes. 1 LFO with random/saw/sine waveforms. Oscillators detuneable, envelopes can be assigned to pretty much anything in any order (even inverted).

Incredible sounds possible with this massively underrated synth.

I will almost certainly buy another one of these one day, I’m very reluctant to part with it, but i just moved into my first house and not enough space.

But rest assured that this CS-15 is one of the most well looked after and unmarked examples you could probably ever find.

There is one scratch below the volume control (which is hard to spot) and a couple of scratches underneath on the wooden base panel but that is about all. other than that, it is almost cosmetically perfect.

Functionally it is amazing, the keys are all even and trigger perfectly, the rotary knobs are all perfect. There are only two sometimes scratchy filter switches (they crackle when switching modes) which may need some contact cleaner, I really don’t think it’s any worse than that (i’d say this is more a symptom of underuse than overuse, as the longer i’ve had it, the less that has been a problem.)

I really can’t praise this synth’s sound making capabilities enough, it can even make some formant-synthesis type sounds thanks to its two filters.” Link

“Hello Analog People. THIS IS AN AWESOME SYNTH. I’ve had two of these since the late 1980′s, kept one around as a spare. Neither one has ever had a problem. I don’t need two anymore – have to cut down on the arsenal, I have too much clutter. Gone are the days when I used to set them both up and pretend I was Rick Wakeman. Even so I’m sorry to part with this one. I would NEVER sell them both. I dearly wish Yamaha hadn’t abandoned analog in the 1980′s – they made a lot of progress. This has really fat low end – a bass player buddy of mine asked to borrow this for awhile to use for bass sounds sometimes in a reggae band and he loved it. It sounds a lot like a Moog and stays in tune much better. When I bought this from the original owner it was in a hard case (included) and they told me they hadn’t opened the case in several years. When I fired it up it was STILL IN CONCERT PITCH!! This beast holds pitch like nothing else I’ve ever owned.

Sorry no manual with this but it’s very intuitive. The front panel has a flowchart (literally!) that shows you the possible signal paths which are actually pretty basic. Anyway no instruction book can replace your own experimentation. As Ray Kurzweil put it – “Analog Synths are really a black art, you turn a knob until something feels good”.” Link
