” You are bidding on a Yamaha Synthesizer CS01. This item is in great condition and plays great. There are some scratches from wear but nothing significant. The pads on the one back side are missing as shown in picture. This synthesizer is also missing the shoulder strap and attached knob for the strap. Six “AA” batteries are needed and not included. Nine volt adapter will also work but not included. All knobs and sliders are good. The very last key to the right does not work but I am not sure if its is suppose to or if it is just a blank key.” Link

“Hi there and thanks for looking! This is a Yamaha CS01 analog synthesizer. This item is used. Includes keyboard only. Operates on 6 “AA” batteries (not included) or 9V-12V DC adapter (not included). Synthesizer shows some signs of wear all over, including some scuffs and worn places, and a small bit of melted or damaged plastic near the power input, but overall, it’s in very good condition given its age (please see photos below). All keys, knobs, sliders, wheels and switches work perfectly, though some produce a very small amount of noise/static during movement. Original strap pegs and battery cover are all in place and intact. ” Link

“Yamaha CS-01 mit MIDI-Nachrüstung
(English version below)

Selbstabholer in Berlin willkommen.

Yamaha CS-01 with MIDI retrofit

Up for auction is an analog monophonic synthesizer from the early 1980s. The CS-01 may look a bit like a toy, but it can produce some fat bass and lead sounds. It can run on batteries and has holders for a guitar strap – so you can strap it on like a keytar.

This particular unit has been retrofitted with a MIDI input kit by highlyliquid.com, so it can be played by external sequencers or keyboards. This way you can play its entire tonal range, while the internal keyboard only has two and a half octaves. The mod does not affect the functionality of the internal keyboard in any way. But in order to make room for the MIDI kit, the CS-01′s internal speaker had to be removed. Not much of a loss – it sounded pretty awful anyway. :)

This CS-01 is in used condition and has some scratches, but is fully working. It comes complete with its original battery lid. ” Link

“I am selling this CS-01 in excellent condition (hardly used), with power supply, a guitar strap so you can move around while playing and it has a breath control unit (also as new) for extra sounds simluting brass and woodwind style instruments. I also have the original manuals and the original pacakging. All items have been stored in clean dry conditions away from sunlight. The CS-01 is a classic analog monosynth from Yamaha. Although originally designed for use by novice musicians or first time synth-buyers, the CS-01 has been recognized by today’s electronic musicians as one fat little bass machine with simple controls. In a nutshell, the CS-01 is simple to use and edit but still has some great features for any situation. It’s tiny and portable, it has baby-sized keys and it can run on mains power or batteries, and there is a built-in amplifier and speaker which is quite fun or line-out connection. As for sounds and synthesizing, the CS-01 is the perfect monosynth for bubbly and growling bass! It features a very nice 12dB resonant VCF filter. In addition to the oscillators’ sine and square type waveforms there is PWM and noise. There are also LFO controls, glissando (like portamento), a typical ADSR envelope generator, pitch & mod wheels and a breath controller input. The CS-01 may look simple or toy-like but it is still able to create cool little analog bass blips, bass lines and bass bubbles that are just perfect for today’s electronic musicians. It has been used by the Dust Brothers, Underworld, OMD, Richard Barbieri and Chick Corea. This little baby just wants some-one with musical talent to put it through it paces and lay down some serious sounds :) Link

“You are viewing a vintage analog Yamaha CS-01 synthesizer. I recently had it refurbished, so it is in perfect working condition. The technician who worked on it added one unique touch: when I purchased this synth, it had no power adapter input, and consequently he added an RCA power input as pictured above. I will include the power adapter with the keyboard.

One note: it is best not to leave the batteries in this CS-01 if you will be using the power adapter. The batteries can get really hot as a result.” Link

absolutely no functional issues whatsoever exist. however, there is one cosmetic issue: a large scratch to the right of the keyboard (see last picture). i have no idea how this happened, as i bought it like that. but other than being a bit unsightly, its no real cause for concern.

i don’t have the power adaptor, manual or breath controller, unfortunately. but i’m 99% sure you can buy a power adaptor for it at radio shack and anyway, it’s made for use with batteries so play it that way! :) Link

Note this is the Mk1 version with a grey case and a 12db filter with switchable resonance from Low to High settings.

Cosmetically in good condition – a few light scratches as you would expect for a synth of this age – the most obvious one is under the PWM Speed slider (see photos).

All knobs keys and sliders etc. working as they should. The battery compartment looks clean but I’ve only ever used it with a power supply. I don’t have a breath controller so haven’t been able to test if the breath control functions work but assume they should be fine.

“Up for auction is my Yamaha CS-01 MKII.

Don’t let it’s size fool you. This little monosynth puts out a mean 50/50 duty cycle square wave bass sound. very similar to the SH-101 tonality.

This particular unit is the MKII version featuring a 24db lowpass filter (rather than the 12db filter of the MKI) as well as a proper Resonance slider rather than just a High/Low switch.

This unit functions 100%. No scratchy pots or sliders. Feel free to do a youtube search on “Yamaha CS-01″ to hear what these units can do for yourself.

It comes with the guitar strap pegs installed. No power supply is included, it runs off 12v DC @ 300mA but you can find the proper unit at any local radio shack or proper electronics store.

I personally always used it with batteries. No rusting or battery leakage in the compartment.

ALSO, this unit comes with a Highly Liquid CS-01 MIDI kit to retrofit midi control for the unit. It is a complete kit, unistalled. Any competent technician could easily follow the instructions to install it. I personally never had the time. ” Link

Link

This item is in very good condition for its age, still in its own original box and in full working order. It’s a great piece of kit with a wide range of sounds and effects. The unit requires either 6 AA batteries or a mains adaptor – neither are supplied.” Link

“THIS LITTLE BEAUTY HAS BEEN GREAT BUT SADLY IT MUST NOW GO TO A GOOD HOME :(

AS YOU CAN SEE FROM THE PICTURES IT IS A LITTLE BEATEN UP COSMETICALLY (FROM STORAGE OVER THE YEARS AND HAS NOT BEEN TREATED ROUGHLY OR DROPPED) BUT AS FAR AS I CAN TELL IT SEEMS TO BE FULLY FUNCTIONAL.

THERE SEEMS TO BE A LITTLE BIT OF CRACKLING THROUGH THE INBUILT SPEAKER WHEN YOU TURN IT OFF AND ON SOME OF THE SLIDERS (I GATHER THIS IS PRETTY COMMONPLACE) ALTHOUGH THE MORE I HAVE PLAYED THIS HAS PRETTY MUCH STOPPED, I PRESUME BECAUSE IT HASN’T BEEN USED FOR SO LONG. A LITTLE CONTACT CLEANSER WOULD REMEDY THIS IF YOU HAD THE INCLINATION.

I HAVE CLEANED IT UP AS BEST I CAN WITH CANNED AIR AND ANTI-BACTERIAL WIPES AND IT REALLY IS AN AMAZING LITTLE SYNTH. ALL THE KEYS AND FUNCTIONS SEEM TO BE FINE ALTHOUGH I AM NOT AN EXPERT. ” Link

“I bought this in 1984 but, after an initial burst of enthusiasm, that was it as far as my keyboard playing aspirations went.

It’s been virtually untouched for the last 26 years and everything’s still in absolutely perfect working order. With some regret I’ve decided I might as well sell it to someone who’ll appreciate it for what it is – a great, retro sounding, genuine 80′s synth.

It’s in excellent condition – there’s only a few minor marks to the finish, mainly on the underside, and comes in it’s original packaging and box, together with the User’s Manual. There’s even the bill from ‘Windows’ of Newcastle dated 2 June 84!

Synth from early Eighties , no longer used

Works with Power Supply ( included in this sale : 12v DC ) ( never actually even tried it with batteries )

Includes Users Manual as PDF on CD ROM

Battery cover missing ( this went missing years ago , but have always used it with power supply )

It is in working condition but has a few issues which i’ve listed below :
( im sure somebody with a bit of electronics knowledge could sort it , but that sort of thing is beyond me )

In the VCO section it wont select up to 4′ feet and also won’t select the triangle waveform , although this still leaves Sawtooth , Square & rectangle waveforms working ok and the PWM.
Finally the Frequeny cut off no longer does anthing ( as you know this is the one that gets the use , but again can probably be sorted if you know what your doing )

Other than those issues it plays & sounds fine . ( and not too bad cosmetic condition for age – see pics )
I have tried to test it to the best of my ability & be totally honest with its functionality” Link

“YAMAHA CS01 SYNTHESISER

Welcome to my auction. You are bidding on:

A Yamaha CS01 Synthesiser

Soft Carry Case and Box

User Manual and a Yamaha book called synthesisers

A new and unused MIDI Kit from Highly Liquid (requires fitting, for instructions see http://highlyliquid.com/kits/cs01-midi/)

Synth is in very good condition with a few tiny marks.

Only problem is that 6 of the keys do not appear to be working (Lower C Sharp to F Sharp)
I have just pulled this from the cupboard to test before sale and think there maybe a loose connection (could be easy fix for someone with electronics knowledge)

I purchased the MIDI Kit from highly liquid and was planning to pay someone to fit the kit and repair the synth, but I need some money now so it has to go.” Link

“yamaha CS 01 vintage synth FAULTY!

I am listing this as faulty, however, it has been used in my studio with no issues up till a few months ago when the dc input socket became dodgy, this gradually got worse and it now wont power on.

I have taken it apart as i know a bit about electronics and i think it is the power ic on the power stage that has blown due to the dodgy dc input socket.

I have spoken to yamaha and obtained the 2 part nos for both of these parts and they come to a total of 10 pounds.

I am listing this item as faulty as i can not guarentee that these parts will 100% fix it but i am confident that anyone who knows a little bit about electronics will be able to fix it.

its an awsome little synth when working and a collectible classic. I would hang on to it, but it has been hanging around my studio for a while now and it looks like im just never going to get round to ordering the parts and trying to fix it, which is why i have chosen to list it.

“Hello. For sale is the ultra rare red Yamaha CS01 analog mini mono synth. I absolutely hate to get rid of this, as i have never seen another red one for sale, but times are tight and i need to sell it :( . Its not in the best condition, but it is (mostly) functional, and its red!! Cosmetically its a bit rough – there’s an indentation on the speaker, and there’s tape and gunk residue, as well as scuffs. There’s some velcro on the bottom of the unit. Its also missing the battery cover. It has a few functional defects too — the speaker doesn’t work (related to the indentation?), and the modulation and LFO doesn’t work. (i know – bummer). Maybe an easy fix?? Never bothered to look into fixing it. I have no way of testing the breath control as i don’t have the breath controller. Otherwise, everything else works — pitch bend, glissando, all voices in all octaves, all keys, freq. cut off, white noise, resonance, ADSR, etc — everything else works great. It has a fantastic sound – the PWM and Square voices are especially great – thick, meaty, juicy. The outputs work fine. It even still has the guitar strap on pegs. If you’re looking at this, you know how cool of a keyboard this is, and i will probably regret selling it. Sold as is.” Link

“Hallo,
