This unit is modified for tweaking the sound parameters. The condition is good.

From a very subtle bass drum in a unmoded unit, you can now get distorted hard-core kicks. (or anything between)

A previous owner has drilled two holes in the side for separate audio outputs for example handclap.

All parts are included (some endcaps for dials and such is removed in the picture)

Function: Works very well except that some buttons are oxidized and reacts badly. You have to use force!

Sometimes I have noticed that it would not work at first boot but had to restart, can be that I fitted into a MIDI interface (not included, did it not work either)

The reason I’ve keep it around so long is because i just love looking at it and hearing its amazing kick. I am the second owner of this CR-8000. When i bought it a few of the buttons were sticking and two LEDs on the lower row of buttons were not working. Since then it has been fully serviced and returned to new by a technician. The case is very clean and has very few marks for its age, there is also no discolouration or yellowing, i would say it is in excellent condition. “Available here is this classic Roland CR-8000 Compu Rhythm vintage drum machine complete with the original box and packaging. Not only that, this machine has undergone a fully comprehensive service including re carbon coating where necessary and every switch contact and pot has been meticulously cleaned. Amazingly, after an engineers bill of over £150 for work completed, there is still one program button that takes a bit of extra pushing to operate. It is the final program button so it’s not a performance button and truthfully, it’s very rarely used. The only other issue is a small cosmetic one. The top of the Claves/Cowbell knob has been glued back on. Please ask for the extra pictures showing lots of close ups and we’ll email these to you.

“I have had this CR 8000 from new and purchased in the 80s. It is in good cosmetic order but I am afraid some of the Micro switches either need a thorough clean or need replacing. I had it plugged in last week and went through various functions and did get the rock 1 and the famous 80s hand clap eventually working but that was only after a lot of patience with the buttons. Having said that quite a few worked straight away. It will come complete with the original cover which is worn, a couple of foot controls and an outlet lead. There are no instructions.” Link

1st off – the battery compartment door is missing. It’s been a while since I opened up the unit but I don’t believe that the battery holder is even wired…so that needs to be fixed if you want to keep your patterns stored when the unit is not plugged in. However, if you leave the unit plugged in (doesn’t have to be “on”) it will store your patterns.

Everything else works great! This is a very nice beat box – with very unique features like switching patterns in real-time (in the middle of a beat) without “losing a beat”. You can also set up fills and switch those in the middle of a beat, too. You can set up auto-fills on the end of a pattern. You can mix “preset” patterns and individual drum voice patterns with your own user-patterns. ” Link

Dieses Exemplar hat durchaus Gebrauchsspuren. Die Potis funktionieren. Einige Taster brauchen manchmal einen zweiten Schubs. Die beiden Taster CY-8″ und HH4″ (mit denen man gerade 8tel Cymbals und 4tel Hihats zuschalten kann) müssten auf jeden Fall gereinigt oder ausgetauscht werden. (Man kann HiHats und Cymbals aber wie bei der 808 auch im Pattern programmieren und dann per Poti rein und rausdrehen). Die Programmierung der Patterns funktioniert, die Programmiertaster funktionieren problemlos.

NOTE: What makes this CR machine very valuable over other CR-8000 machines is that it has SEPARATE OUTS modded for each drum sound! So you can have different effect chains for each drum sound. You can see them in the picture of the back panel.

“This is a superb fully analog classic drum machine, one of the first programmable machines, and the forerunner to the famous TR808 (although I prefer the CR8000).
Serial number 400640, i believe it was made in 1980/81.

I have had loads of classic drum machines, including three of these, and this one is my number one favourite and the best condition of any CR8000 that I have seen. All the CR8000s I have seen have had faded and discoloured casing, this one doesn’t – it is a lovely smooth beige! Of course it is obviously used and on close inspection you can see markings and scuffing on the casing, minor marking on the buttons etc. Difficult to pick up in photos but I will happily email you my high res shots if you ask me. All the graphics are in top quality, none missing or worn. Generally I would say this is in excellent condition.

The best thing is that all the buttons and knobs work perfectly! No sticky switches, scratchy pots etc. The only very minor issue that I can find is that when you turn the tempo knob it tends to skip tempos while you are turning (you can see this in the video), but when you stop turning it sits on the tempo perfectly (tempo is also controllable by DIN input on rear).

Of course the best thing about it are the sounds… All analog beautiful drum sounds, full of character and classic vibe. It has built in patterns as well as the ability to make your own patterns with an on/off step sequencer two button arrangement. The drum sounds have individual level knobs and pattern buttons. Trigger output (can trigger an SH101 for example), DIN sync, footswitch input, jack out. I also have a photocopied manual.” Link

Das Gerät wurde vor einem Jahr durch einen Techniker überholt, gereinigt und eine neue Speicherbatterie eingebaut.
Optisch ist er für sein alter in einem guten Zustand. Natürlich sind hier und da Gebrauchsspuren und das Gehäuse ist etwas vergilbt.
Durch langes nichtbenutzen sind nun leider ein paar Kontaktprobleme aufgetaucht.
Das ist eine bekannte Schwachstelle der CR 8000. Das Teil möchte halt genutzt werden
Bank 2 funktioniert so nur manchmal ( hier sind allerdings eh nur Preset – Rhythmen ) und die ein oder andere Taste muss etwas fester gedrückt werden.
Das gibt sich durch regelmäßiges benutzen aber schon von alleine.Die Taster Bank1 und 2 funktionieren ohne Probleme. Das erstellen und speichern eigener Rhythmen ist also ohne einschränkungen möglich.
Technisch ist das Gerät wirklich in Ordnung. Es handelt sich hier nur um mechanische Probleme, die ganz einfach wieder behoben werden können.” Link

“Here we have a vintage Roland CR-8000 drum machine/rhythm box in great working condition. This machine dates from 1981 and is a fully programmable/preset analog drum machine. Roland enthusiasts know that the early 80′s was their analog heyday and the time of the legendary TR-808 drum machine. The CR-8000 contains many of the same sounds as the 808, including the famous snare sound. And since the sounds aren’t samples, but real analog, this is an excellent way to get genuine 808 sounds at a much lower price.

It contains a wide selection of preset rhythms, as well as slots for programming your own. The tempo knob works perfectly and accurately sets the tempo, but the square selector buttons have become less sensitive with age. They work fine, but they may require repeated presses to select some rhythms or functions. I’m sure that a technician or someone adept with fixing drum machines would be able to fix this admittedly minor problem, which of course has no impact on sound quality. Also, a decorative piece of orange plastic has fallen off of one of the mixer pots.

The serial number on this unit indicates that it was manufactured in July 1981, and was #722 in the production run. Genuine vintage gear!” Link

This one is from about 1981 and is classified as for spare parts, since it has some issues.
Serialnumber: 266517.

Lets first state that it absolutely sounds perfect and no cracks in the sounds or what so ever.

the issues are:
- Band selector switch 2 does not work and it’s operation is replaced by a switch on the left side, clearly visible on the photograph.
So it’s functional.
- preset 2 and 6 do not work,.
- On/Off switch is stuck in the On position and doesn’t jump back when pressed.

These issues might be solvable by someone handy.

But it has an interesting bonus in extra outputs on the back for the individual sounds!!!!!!” Link

Das Gerät ist komplett analog, hat die gleiche Sounderzeugung der TR-808 laut Roland im Service Manual, Zitat: …“the voice generator are designed based on a fashion similar to those in the circuit of the TR-808…” und so klingt sie auch. Der Klang ist jedoch nicht veränderbar, nur in der Lautsträrke beim mono Betrieb über die Potis.

Der Sound hat ganz schön Druck, macht echt Spass! Ist auch ganz einfach zu bedienen:

Es stehen bereits 8 Speicherplätze für 2taktige Patterns zur Verfügung. Die Programmierung erfolgt Step by Step. Es können alle auswählbaren Instrumente gespeichert werden und die Auflösung beträgt 96 Schläge pro Takt.

Zu den 8 Preset Fill Ins kommen noch 4 frei programmierbare Fill Ins zu je einem Takt.

Eine Auto Fill In Schaltung erlaubt das automatische Einfügen eines Fill Ins in den jeweils 2., 4., 8., 12. oder 16. Takt.

Die 32 Presets kann man jeweils kombinieren und im Arranger Section mit 7 weiteren Instrumentenversionen verändern, ebenso mit Shuffle und Accent-funktion lassen sich die Beats verändern damit der Groove nochmals mehr gut rüberkommt!

Es gibt eine Menge Spielhilfen und Kombinationen mit der Register-funktion und den Anschlüssen auf der Rückseite, sodass man viele Variationen im Handumdrehen bekommt, ideal für Echtzeit Aufnahmen und Improvisationen. Wie man das genau macht steht im beigelegten Manual.
