” I bought this tr-606 from the original owner’s brother. Battery compartment is loose, but takes batteries and powers up fine. Case is in good condition and I think that the unit is in a lot better condition that what’s floating around on the internet these days. I had some problems with it so I bought EVERY REPLACEMENT PART IN EXISTENCE to build a like new 606.When I turned it on, I noticed that it changes tempo and patterns and tempo on it’s own (everything I have read says this is the PRAM) …sometimes it works like a charm. Some of the LEDs are “sticky” as well. The adapter I got from technology transplant doesn’t quite fit, a boss PSA works just fine, but one of the parts I got is the replacement internal adapter in case you want to switch that. It has really only lived at my house for 60 days or less.

“Here we got an ultra rare vintage Roland Computer Rhythm CR-78 Drum Machine from the early 80′s. In Great Condition.” Link
“This has not really been used in years, still has the roland 117v sticker on the cord, It works pretty good, the volume slide had some static but it seems to have worked itself out, a couple of push buttons are a little sticky but again look to be working itself out, I did not do anything to it, so it should be cleaned and etc, the sounds coming out are pretty clean, I really do not know much about this unit just trying to provide as much info and pictures as possible, believe the foot switch is original, it does say roland on it and is a 1/4 inch jack”
“Here it is, the mighty Roland CR78. The unit is perfectly functional and in very very good shape. There is a slight scratch by the accent knob that is only visible in certain lights at certain angles. The case was originally done in black tolex that was totally wasted when I got it, so I had it professionally veneered with real wood, stained and sealed. The volume and balance sliders have Juno 6/60 caps instead if the usual white pips. I did this to make it easier to control and have since lost the two white pips.” Link

” Up for auction here we have a nice-looking vintage CR-78 drum machine circa 1978. The unit was used in a smoke-free studio and never gigged with. The condition is pretty good as you can see from the pics. There’s a slight tear in the tolex right under the middle front as you can see but it is very minor. It’s only 1/8″ wide and an inch and a half long. The tolex is there and hasn’t torn off so I’m tempted to just glue it back but I leave that to the buyer to decide on. There’s a little bit scuff on two corners but smaller than 1/4″ in diameter at the most. I can provide more pics so put it in your watched list and check back throughout the week for more postings here. Two of the tiny white rubber nibs are missing from the voice sliders (the tambourine and guiro) but all of these issues are merely cosmetic. The plug at the end of the power cord is somewhat disconnected from the wrapping as you can see in the pics. Overall it’s really one of the nicest-looking CR-78s you’ll see.
Functionally the voices work fine but I believe there needs to be a cleaning with electrical cleaner on the inside as the programmer section doesn’t light up and sync and the variation section is inconsistent. The unit powers up fine and plays patterns and voices and all of the other lights light up. I never used the sequencer since it’s is pretty primitive anyway so I never had use for it. A little electrical spray or a new battery might be all that is needed.” Link

“Roland CR-78 CompuRhythm Analalog Rhythm Machine
The CR-78 is a really great little box from Roland. It’s a classic analog Rhythm Machine, not a drum machine, and was the first to use a microprocessor. It has 34 built in preset rhythm patterns which can be varied at the push of a button. These patterns include Rock, Disco, Waltz, Shuffle, Slow Rock, Swing, Fox Trot, Tango, etc… Some are cool, but the ability to vary them gives you some creative control.
As for the drum sounds, the CR-78 offers 14 very electronic yet analog drum tones. Sounds include Kick, Snare, Rim, Cow Bell, HiHats, Cymbals, Congas, Bongos, Tambourine and Guiros. With 11 variation effects and the ability to adjust Tempo, accents, and fade in/outs the CR-78 is still capable of producing nice rhythms for use in ambient, HipHop, dub, and other electronic forms of music.
I don’t know anything about this item. I was able to plug it in and get some sounds out of it. Please see the video provided below. I had no idea what this was when I came accross it, I plugged it in and this is what it sounds like. I am sure it does a lot more then I am able to figure out.. I just wanted you to get an idea of it’s condition. I am selling this unit as is. I can not gaurantee that it will work to perfection. It is missing one little rubber knob cover as seen in pictures. I was going to take this to Los Angeles and have it serviced so I could sell it for a premium; I have decided to leave that up to the professional, which would be the buyer/not me!! I did find someone who is familar with these units and just happens to have an extra one in their shop that could be used for parts if any are needed. I got their number from Roland. If you need this information once you buy it I will provide you with it. Feel free to make me a good offer on it and it is yours. ” Link
“Here we have an early Roland CR-78 in great condition.
Roland CR-78 analog drum machine
* Sync the CR-78 to any other Din Sync device
* Select the playback sync rate to: (1) normal speed, (2) double speed, (3) half speed
* Use external positive polarity Gate or Trigger signals to program patterns into the CR-78 user memory.
* Manually tap a beat into the CR-78 user memory using the momentary switch on the front panel.
* Front panel blue LED lights to show when external gate or trigger signals are being received.
The unit has been recently serviced, the battery has been professionally replaced so no risk of leakage and the NMOS RAM chips have been replaced. The Roland service manual is included.
Programming from one of these devices is simple. By syncing the playback of the CR-78 to your Din Sync master, you can then send the programmable trigger or gate signals out of the master into the programmer interface and on to the CR-78 for storing your own custom rhythms in the CR-78. When using a Din Sync master device which also has MIDI such as the Revolution, you can then sync your CR-78 to any other MIDI sequencers as well ” Link

“Rare vintage 1980s ROLAND CR-78 CompuRhythm Drum Machine.
Unit is in good used condition. The case is worn black original finish, Has tape residue/marks and some tape. The bottom is missing one mounting screw ( I will try to find one before shipping so as to make the mechanics secure). Also note picture 4 inset which shows the plug is beginning to separate from the cord – not frayed but perhaps should be taped or replaced. All parts on this unit are original. There are two slider knobs missing. I believe you can find instructions in pdf form on the web or purchase on ebay.
Unit has been tested and works. Does NOT include any original paperwork, box, or the programming remote unit. ” Link
“It’s in perfect working condition. This is a reluctant sell. Collection preferred.” Link
“This is the Roland CR-78 CompuRhythm. It is easily one of the most sought-after machines in the music industry. This one works fantastically, I have never had a problem with it. Unlike others I have seen for sale over the years it has all of the knobs. As you can see in the picture, the laminated wood case is not pristine. You could have it repaired or replaced pretty cheaply, but personally I think the fact that the PVC pipe wrap tape around it has been holding it together for over a decade is kind of cool.” Link
“Needs some work to be fully functioning.
The knobs are missing on the Variation and Measure switches and also the white knob on the programmer section is not the original. The white cover on the output volume is missing.
There is no output from the BD and the SN circuits.
The SN “cancel voice” button is stuck in cancel mode.
Some minor dings on the corners.
Can be clocked externally.
Silent Way by Expert Sleepers works as well.
A classic.” Link

“Here we have an early Roland CR-78 in excellent condition. It sounds and functions as good as it looks and is guaranteed to work perfectly right out of the box. I have been lucky enough to own a few CR-78s in my life and this is one of the nicest. It only shows signs of use on a few of the corners and insignificant spots on the wood casing. I have always preferred the wood case over the vinyl. The first thing I do when I get a CR-78 is remove the battery! If you are familiar with CR-78s you know that the battery is a ticking time bomb and if it’s not removed or replaced it can leak acid all over the inside of your instrument. Luckily for me, I removed the battery on this unit way before that happened. This unit is clean inside and out. Because this is an early unit there is not a good option to replace the 4n-100a battery. The only function of the battery is to store your user patterns after the unit is turned off. Trust me, you will not miss being able to permanently store your step sequences. In order to really take advantage of the sounds of the CR-78 I sent the unit to Kenton in London England and had them install a KADI port so I could connect the unit to a Pro Kadi unit. This allows you to control each individual drum sound via midi. I remember the first time I connected my newly retrofitted CR-78 to my Kenton and my Atari 1040st running cubase. I was blown away. To my ears, the kick on the CR-78 is better than the kick on my TR-909 and TR-808. (I still love them though.) I was drawn to the CR-78 because of the great interface that almost forces you to create new ideas. In my opinion when you add the ability to control the CR-78 via midi you get the ultimate analog beat experience. In order to use the midi function you will need one of the Kenton midi interfaces that has a KADI port. You will need a Kenton Pro-Kadi, pro solo, pro-4, or pro-2000. If you do not have a Kenton yet you can find good deals on them second hand. ” Link

“ROLAND CR-78
PROGRAMER SWITCH
ORIGINAL MAUNALS
Here is a near mint condition Roland CR-78 Compurhythm Drum Machine.
Any one looking at this probably already knows the history, if not there is loads out there on the net regarding this legendary machine.
The only slight issue with this unit is some very light static on the volume/balance/add voice switches. Sure this can be fixed very easily with a decent clean up or static spray.
This unit comes with the original programmer Pad so you can program your own patterns, and also the original owners manual (i even had the original box for this beast, but it seems to have been lost somewhere in a move).
I’ll be really sad to see this go, and have had a lot of fun/recording with this baby, but alas, i’m upgrading my computer and need to balance the costs out somehow.’” Link
“Comes with manual, and yes I installed a kenton midi kit.excellent condition.” Link
“This particular Compu-Rhythm will need attention . It plays but output is low & very distorted . I imagine it needs the contacts cleaning & re-capping of the circuit board , (but that is just my opinion as a mildly informed ex tube radio repairer ) . Often the internal battery leaks , destroying part of the printed circuit ….in this instance the battery is completely corrosion free…see photo below . Internally it is completely original , free from backyarder repairs . Professional restorers of these are available in Australia & U.S. , easily found on the net . So it does run through a sequence & has some distorted output – so it’s far from dead .
Cosmeticly it’s in very good condition , both case , panel & knobs showing careful , low use . This is a 240v. mode” Link
“This is a Roland CR 78 analog drum machine. It was quite popular in the 70′s/80′s and can be heard on records by OMD (OMD, Organisation, Enola Gay), Blondie (Heart of Glass, Atomic), Phil Collins (In the Air Tonight), Depeche Mode (Sounds of the Universe), John Foxx (Metamatic, Underpass, Metal Beat, Plaza), Ultravox (Vienna), Hall and Oates (Private Eyes, Kiss on My List, I Can’t Go For That), Gary Numan (Telekon, Pleasure Principle), Genesis (Duchess), Peter Gabriel, Men Without Hats, Annie Lennox, and Jean-Michel Jarre among others. This unit is in good shape despite a few scratches, a burnt out LED light, and a missing Auto/Manual switch (which can be operated with a pencil). It is in excellent working condition, although the high output seems a bit weak and the CV jacks are untested. Included are the owner’s manual and technical manual (both are non-original). Sold as is” Link
“Everything works perfectly, cosmetically looks great, other than slightly frayed on the back bottom wood edge, as you can see on the pic, for a 32 year old instrument, it’s incredible.” Link
“I bought this a few years ago on ebay and it has never left the shelf in my workshop.
It is in very good condition and works well, the only damage is that one of the slider caps is cracked. This effects nothing.” Link
“Up for auction is a vintage Roland drum machine model CR-78 CompuRhythm in the black wood chassis. I acquired this unit some time ago with the intent to put it to use, but that plan never came to fruition. Unit serial number is 935446. Face plate is in very nice shape, and all buttons/switches function fine. The chassis has wear as seen in the pictures – some edge wear, and a bit of one corner with a ding, and a piece missing from a bottom edge. I had a friend of mine check this unit out, as he still has some equipment, and the controls all function fine, and the sound was good – no added noise – everything works! But, we did not have the capability to check out the programming section to see if it was still working, as we do not have the original switch box. Reading through the internet I see there are other options for programming this unit now without having to use the original switch unit. One item of note – I don’t know if this is the way this unit is set to function (or if this was due to our front panel switch settings), but – and I’m trying to remember, either the upper row of colored buttons in the rhythm section seems to have a delay (several seconds pass after pushing a button before the sound takes effect), or it is the lower row.” Link

“For auction is this Roland CR-78 analog drum machine with custom one of a kind Din Sync and Pattern Programmer interface.
Chances are if you’re looking at this auction you’re well aware of what the CR-78 is, if not there’s plenty of information already on the web about it.
This drum machine is in excellent condition, very clean indeed. This unit has undergone full servicing, and has been found to be in 100% tip top shape. All controls and operations function perfectly!
The programmer/sync box was custom made by Future Retro (1 of only 2 ever made), and allows you to do the following…
* Sync the CR-78 to any other Din Sync device
* Select the playback sync rate to: (1) normal speed, (2) double speed, (3) half speed
* Use external positive polarity Gate or Trigger signals to programm patterns into the CR-78 user memory.
* Manually tap a beat into the CR-78 user memory using the momentary switch on the front panel.
* Front panel blue LED lights to show when external gate or trigger signals are being received.
* Sync box is powered using a 9v battery (included)
* Instructions for using the sync box will be included with the item.
We have tested the Sync/Programming of the CR-78 using the Roland TR-808, TR-606, and Future Retro Revolution.
Programming from one of these devices is simple. By syncing the playback of the CR-78 to your Din Sync master, you can then send the programmable trigger or gate signals out of the master into the programmer interface and on to the CR-78 for storing your own custom rhythms in the CR-78. When using a Din Sync master device which also has MIDI such as the Revolution, you can then sync your CR-78 to any other MIDI sequencers as well.” Link
“You’re bidding on a vintage, ROLAND CR-78 CompuRhythm Drum Machine. The purchase includes a TS-1 programmer pedal, manual and the CR-78. This unit is in great working order. For cosmetics I would say its an 8 on a scale from 1 to 10. The front panel is very clean , with good color and no fading. Buttons are clean fully functional and all working. The Sides are very clean, no big scratches or anything like that. For what you would expect for wear and tear on a 70′s unit, it’s in very good shape. Studio kept, and light usage.
One of the best parts of this amazing unit besides being able to interface with your computer, is its ability to select more than one rhythm preset at a time (i.e. rock 1, disco 2 and samba etc.) and also mute drum sounds from a pattern using the balance knob and dedicated cancel buttons. This makes for some very interesting rhythmic patterns.” Link
“Hi, another drum machine from my collection the CR-78 CompuRythm by Roland. This is a great sounding unit, with a warmer sound less bang than a 808 or 909. Very different machine better for new wave or synth pop, or eclectic types of mix’s. Works beautifully with analog equipment as well, they mate up very nicely. This one is in great working order. Attached is a link to a Soundcloud audio sample of this very unit that I just made. Sound sample consist of it running through all of it factory presets that you see on the face via buttons, Rock 1, Rock 2 , etc. Also the manul triggered variation fill in’s are included as well in the sound sample. I forgot how to program it, but last time I did it many years ago it worked fine. Trigger out works in both 1/8th and 16th modes. For cosmetics on a scale of 1-10 I would say its between a 7 to 8. The front panel is very clean , with good color and no fading. Buttons are clean fully functional and all working. The Sides are very clean, no big scratches or anything like that. There are some dings in the corners which you can see in the photographs. For what you would expect for wear and tear on a unit this old its in pretty good shape. Studio kept, and light usage. Never gigged or toured and I’ve owned it for about 15 years. ” Link

“Used Roland CR-78 Drum Machine. This unit functions well, but has a few issues: Start switch is broke (can be started/stopped with a footswitch), accent knob is not original, has one missing switch cap, programmer section is non-fuctional. Everything else functions flawlessly, no scratchy pots or anything. The inside of this unit will need to be cleaned out. We have too many projects to get done and don’t have time for this. Here’s your chance to get one of these for under $1K! ” Link

“Auction is for the vintage Roland CR-78 Compurhythm drum machine as pictured. This is a very early beat synthesizer and is prized by collectors and musicians alike. If you search for this machine on-line you will find lots of interesting history and information so I won’t go into details. Physical condition is very nice. There are remains of tape on the top cover I didn’t attempt to remove where someone had attached instructions or other information. Please be sure to enlarge and maximize my photos for a good look at the instrument. Photos show physical condition very well. I downloaded and printed the owners manual, (included) hooked this up to a channel on my stereo, and did my best to check all the functions. The programmer section did nothing but I believe this is because it needs input from an add-on which I don’t have, but otherwise everything worked as I believe it should. I am not a musician and have had no experience with these so it was impossible for me to check it 100%. ” Link

Link
