“Here is my vintage ARP AXXE monophonic synthesizer. The synth is in working condition but will require some work , the top key sticks down sometimes as seen in the pictures and one of the other keys is slightly raised up higher than all of the others, but all of the keys work. All of the knobs and buttons are present and nothing is missing. The graphics are nice and bright with hardly any wear , some of the sliders are scratchy when moved so they will need to be cleaned. I would suggest that you have the synth serviced before any serious use , due to this I am offering it with no reserve and on a sold as seen basis with no guarentee and no returns.” Link

“ARP AXXE SYNTHESIZER

Model 2310

The original ARRP AXXE, Made in the USA, Newton, Mass

Hi

I’ve had this since it was brand new. My best recollection is that it was purchased in 1976 or so.

* All the electronics works perfectly. Great sounds with a lot of options

* Monophonic Synthesizer

* I just cleaned the slide controls with contact cleaner, there are no dead spots or scratching. But they seem to stick. They work better if you push them down as you slide them. Maybe they need a lubricant?

* The “LFO” square wave slider is missing the little pink rubber cover.

* 37 Keys. All the keys work, none of the keys are cracked or chipped

* The control panel graphics are complete with nothing rubbed off. The “LFO” and “VCF” Grid Lines are a little light but still completely visible.

* There are two little gold paint spots on the control panel that I put on for reference points for the “Pitch Blend” and “Tune” controls.

* Wood on the side has scratches and ware. (They could always be sanded down and stained)

* Notice: the earth safety ground prong has broken off the AC plug. ” Link

It made sounds by playing the keyboard etc. there might be short, I do not know what it is supposed to sound like. All of the keys and levers mover.” Link

“Hallo,

“This auction is for an ARP Axxe monophonic synth. This is one of the later versions with the orange on black lettering and ‘proportional pitch control’ pads on the left, which replaced the rotary control that earlier models used. These really are good machines. If you’re unfamiliar with their capabilities have a look on youtube, where there are plenty of demos.

I’ve owned this synth for many years, and it’s in good working order. I’ve had a few of these over the years, and kept this one because it has a noticeably wider tonal range to its’ VCF section than the others I’ve had, with a great deal more control over the resonance. I assume it’s been modified to achieve this, but couldn’t say for sure as I’ve never had the thing apart. In my experience these older analogue synths can vary in sound from one to another anyway.

Cosmetically, it’s in good overall condition but not mint, with a few marks and scratches to be expected on a keyboard that’s over 30 years old. Everything works as it should including the ppc pads. Being critical, the keys don’t sit at a perfectly level height. You can see this in the photos. They’ve been like this since I bought it and it doesn’t affect their operation in any way, and the other ARPs I’ve had were just the same. I’m only talking about fractions of a millimetre anyway, just trying to be thorough.
The only other thing to note is the ‘power on’ led doesn’t light up, again it never has in my ownership.” Link

“This synth is used but in excellent condition. It is part of the first series of AXXEs before ARP introduced their PPC (Proportional Pad Controls). This first series uses a pitch wheel as opposed to PPC. Everything works. The pots aren’t as smooth as they were in 1975, and the portamento pot could use a looking at. Other than that, this synth is in total working order.

This synth can achieve FAT bass sounds and high frequencies that would send dogs howling. The Arp AXXE can add a lot to you studio and/or live set up. ” Link

Great cosmetic condition as pictured. One owner. Very low overall wear/nicks/dings. No cracks or major dents in metal chassis. A rack deck collapsed and knocked the tops off of some of the sliders. I have included a couple of the tips as shown. No scuffs on the panel were caused by this accident.

All electrical functions work great. No static, intermittent operation; all-working switches and jacks. This is a super rare synthesizer; the original MKI Axxe was a limited released in the 1970′s is much closer to the Oddessey than the ones they released after! Sounds HUGE!

Great keyboard for experimental zone-out sounds, jazz, etc. (Hawkwind, Terry Riley, Herbie Hancock)” Link

“Get an awesome deal on a working Arp Axxe. All keys trigger, all functions work and has been used often until recently. It’s not like it’s been sitting in a closet for 20 years or something.

The only issues is that the VCA Gain slider is a little scratchy (but not noisy when a level is set,) some of the sliders are quite stiff (standard for Axxes and Odysseys) and that there are some small chips in the wood ends. The keyboard could use a levelling as well, especially towards the middle and one of the rubber feet is missing (I always used a coaster to level the one corner.) I am just being picky and completely descriptive of everything” Link

“Up for sale is my much loved ARP AXXE classic vintage synth.

This synth is in excellent condition and has been in my possession for the last 10 years. It has been well looked after and comes complete with a custom built flight case in which to keep it safely stored. It also comes with a printed service manual which comes in handy for tuning and general maintenance of the synth.

Cosmetically this synth is MINT, and it is fully functional with all the sliders working and there is only one slider cap missing. The proportional pitch control is excellent and much more intuitive to use than the conventional pitch bend wheels. The AXXE is not nearly as famous as its big brother the oddessy but it shares many of the same functions and is excellent in its own right. It has the classic ARP sound and the the filter is amazing, you can even use it on external audio sources.” Link

“Another American ARP classic vintage synthesizer. This unit is most excellent shape (close to mint) for a vintage synth and works great. It still has all the original slider caps. See the pics for the cosmetics, very clean, a collectible classic and a work of art. Hard to believe that synth is 30 years old. The biggest cosmetic flaw would be bend and wear on the back bottom corner part of the left end piece and slight wear on the opposite corner of the right end piece. It will be near impossible to find another in this condition and at this price.” Link

ARP, Axxe @ 20 October 2010, “No Comments”

“You are looking at the first article here. If you have an arp axxe with a bad front panel from case foam, you know it’s barely readable. If at all. Using a laser engraver we’ve produced some absolutely fabulous looking front panels. I have one in my studio and this one so far. It’s wonderful to be able to clearly see what is going on in low lighting even. But you cannot tell. Nobody knows that this is not the factory front panel. If you look sideways closely you’ll see the thickness of the material but it’s black inside so it’s not noticeable unless you look close up. It’s the right thickness to not bring it too far out and start interfering with sliders. And of course IF you ever drop something on it and damage it we can just make a new one! :-) But if you buy this with the high tech foam reconfigured case you’ll likely never have that problem. This is the anvil case in GREAT shape with foam that won’t rot! When did you see an axxe package like this? NEVER!

The remaining cosmetic issues aren’t bad and if anything I think add character. Fading of lettering some but the front was the worst on this one by far. So now the part people normally are looking at is like new and the sides are great. Paint on the front strip is great. Keys look great. The slight weathered look on the axxe label on front and the paint on back just ads a strange aura to the thing! It’s like no axxe you’ve ever seen; a piece of artwork. Those laser engravers are sweet!” Link

” ARP Axxe in working condition. It does however still need some repairs and shows signs of use and wear. Therefore, only someone who is familiar with electronics or has access to a competent technician should buy this synthesizer.

1) The power will not turn off. Either the schematic is wrong, the switch is broken, or else. Regardless, I’m leaving this one alone.
2) The pitch bend does not work because it is not soldered to the board. One of the traces to this part will need bypassed due to damage. I have a clear photo of how it should be done.
3) The voice is as stable as can be expected for 35 year old keyboard, however I can tell some components still need upgrading.

I’m selling to help cover repair costs of an ARP Oddyessy. Otherwise I would keep it as it has the Moog clone filter and sounds fantastic.” Link

“This is a beautiful monophonic anolog synth made in the 1970′s. This is the most popular model of the Arp family.

Aesthetically the synth is in really good condition. The wooden sides are in good nick with very little wear to them. The keys are all operationally working with no discolourment. There are no marks on the casing except a small white scratch in between the serial number sticker and first jack socket. (Seen in picture 4).

The sound elements are there but not sounding totally healthy. All of the faders move but some are a stiff with all caps are present with no discolourment. As this is quite an aging synth the sound of the faders are ropy and sound like dust has got inside. As i can tell all the elements work except the faders inside sound like they need cleaning as when moved up and down they sometimes make an crackling noise. This is a good project for someone who knows about electronics” Link

“ARP AXXE synthesizer model 2311

A classic monophonic 1970s analog synthesiser

I believe this is the early version with the copyright-infringing version of a Moog filter that was later discontinued after MOOG filed a lawsuit: –

S/N 2311-170. Main board is marked 2301-002 REV B

It includes CV, Gate and Trig in/out sockets (3.5 mm jacks), Pedal and Low Output 1/4″ jacks), Ext Audio Input and High Output (phono/RCA sockets).

Cosmetically pretty good generally for its 35 year age, with the gold-coloured lettering still complete, and no discolouration of the keys (the the brownish colour of the white keys alonside the black is shadow!). Keys are all intact. However the coloured caps from the sliders have long since gone (only my son knew where, and he can’t now remember!), and the tip of one slider has been broken off, though sufficient still protrudes to be able to operate it.

I haven’t used it for some years, and it has suffered the effects of dust with some of the sliders a bit physically stiff. They all seem to work but the VCF resonance slider in particular is rather graunchy/electrically noisy, and would benefit from a clean or replacement. The keys all seems fine, all keys working, both in terms of action and electrical contact.

I haven’t given the it an exhaustive check to assess all functions, but I have no reason to think other than that with a general service it would be easy to bring it up to scratch. It’s even possible these days to add a midi controller if wanted!” Link

Dieser Axxe ist modifiziert: 3 fach Speed Control Schalter je für ADSR (Hüllkurve) und LFO Frequenz, der ADSR VCF Amount ist invertierbar, zwei CV Eingänge VCF und VCA auf der Rückseite.

Modifikationen an diesem Axxe MkII:

Link

“Vintage Arp Axxe Analog Monophonic Synthesizer. This instrument is fully functional and in very good cosmetic condition. Only issues of note are the colored slider tabs have all been lost/removed (cosmetic only) and 2 of the sliders could possibly use cleaning/lubricating as they have a slight bit of static-type noise in a limited area of the slider range when moving in real-time. Overall this is a great sounding/looking synth from one of the poineer companies of early synthesizer technology.” Link

“This glorious vintage analog Arp Axxe is the real deal when it comes to analogness. It is truly analog and we are talking seriously as it can possibly totally get analog. You just can’t get more analog than this thing. With voltage controlled oscillators, voltage controlled filters and voltage controlled amplifier with adsr control there is nothing digital about this beast.

The sounds this thing generates are beautiful. This is nothing like the moog it must be said and doesn’t quite have the richness or warmth of the moog but it is a different synthesiser altogether and the oscillators can be detuned to create delightful sound mixes but this is a much crisper and punchier synth than the Moog. It kind of cuts through mixes superbly.

The condition of this one is really good. It has recently had some brand new sliders fitted and these sliders are new from a collector who bought up loads of sliders just before arp stopped making these babies so some of the sliders are just beautiful. All the sliders work really well and this thing most certainly does not need a service.

The cosmetics of this example are really really good, I would call it excellent though one has to be so careful on ebay now because we sellers get crushed for nearly anything we say so I’m not taking responsibility if you don’t think this is excellent. I’m warning you that this is a vintage synth but in my humble view it is excellent. The wood ends are really really good with only very mild ware.” Link

“You are bidding on a fully functional first version of the Arp Axxe synthesizer. The ARP Axxe is a monophonic analog synthesizer created by ARP in 1975. As a scaled-down version of the Odyssey, the Axxe was simplified to the point of becoming, arguably, the most standard analog synthesizer. It has a single VCO (producing two different waveforms) that is passed through a basic low-pass filter and VCA. Modulation can be applied to nearly every section of the synthesizer. This early version has a pitch bend knob like those found on Mark I ARP Odysseys, and features a copyright infringing version of a Moog filter that was later discontinued, though no actual lawsuit ever took place. It has the “black and gold” color scheme.” Link

“Great shape! Cosmetically very, very clean. Lettering is still nice and bright with very few scratches on the decals. The Arp works great sans a few scratchy sliders (very common for this type of (synth) but otherwise in excellent condition.” Link

“This is the first article. I’ve reproduced the front panel for the ARP Axxe. (It’s very strong material but is thin enough to not interfere with the original slider boots! The great thing is that you can change it if it ever gets damaged though!!) As some of you may have experienced, case foam absolutely destroys these units’ appearance. You can see what the old front panel looked like by viewing the back. But now we have a laser cut quality overlay. If anything ever damages it, rest assured we can create another one for you. In fact you can swap panels if you like for a custom look! I’ve held it on with goop adhesive which can be removed with care without damaging anything with proper tool.

I’m very pleased with the product to say the least. It’s absolutely perfect. Laser cutters are quite the tool. The graphic work cost quite a bit but hopefully we’ll be able to help a lot of people who have unreadable front panels. I have a second one in my studio. Same situation. The newer orange ones don’t seem to get damaged. But I’ve seen several like this one.

Anyway I cleaned up everything. Replaced the bushings so this is electronically and mechanically pretty excellent. The rear panel had some exposure to moisture which rusted the screws and nuts but didn’t seem to get any further . I cleaned up the jacks so they’re functional. If someone wanted to put solvent and a little wire brush on the screws they’d probably clean up. But I’m figuring many people will park it in a studio where all you’ll see is the front panel anyway so that’s as far as I took it. Anyway..be the first on your block…or..in the WORLD to have a gorgeous looking panel like this on an axxe!! The anvil case is in pretty nice shape outside. I used the hi tech foam to create a fabulously functional interior. Note how it holds the machine against the foam that is underneath. I’ll pad around the box for shipping.” Link

“eautiful Very very good condition Arp AXXE . I restore vintage synths as a hobby, and this Axxe is ready to go to a new home.
Here is a list of things that I did to bring this synth back to the music world:

New key bushings
Keys leveled
buss wire and j wires all hand polished
Key tops polished.
Noisy chips replaced in sockets
Sliders cleaned and lubed
Custom made slider caps all colors correct
Fully calibrated burned in and re-calibrated on a pro electronics bench
Circuit board cleaned with board-wash, all traces inspected at every solder point
Leather end cheeks conditioned
Top panel polished.” Link

“The synth is in excellent working condition. A few of the sliders are a bit stiff from not being used but they function fine. All keys, sliders, inputs/outputs, and synthesizer features function 100% as they should. All routing of envelopes and LFO, etc etc, it all works. I have lots of experience with synthesizers and their advanced functions so I can say this with confidence. There is functionally nothing wrong with this Axxe.
Cosmetically it’s in nice shape as you can see in the pictures. The wood is in good shape and clean. The keys are even and like I said, only a few of the sliders are a bit sticky and have some slight resistance, but a little spray of electrical grease would fix that. The little faceplate that says “ARP AXXE” needs to be reglued above the keys. Other than that it’s your usual nicely kept shape, not bad for a 30+ year old instrument.
The Axxe like many 70′s synths is getting rare, and the black/gold version is the rarest of all. Most of all it sounds great and it’s easy and inspiring to use.” Link

“We don’t get to see too many vintage synths these days but this is in great condition! Fully tested, we confidently provide a 3 month parts & labour warranty on this great investment. Shipping to mainland UK will be via DHL using their ‘Next Day’ delivery service…

The ARP Axxe was a monophonic analog synthesizer created by ARP in 1975 as a cheaper, scaled-down version of the legendary Odyssey. It has a single VCO producing two different waveforms that is passed through a basic low-pass filter and VCA. Modulation can be applied to almost every section of the synthesizer. Noteworthy was the addition of sample-and-hold and the ability to pass external audio through the filter (in the tradition of the Minimoog). ” Link

“Vintage ARP Axxe Model Mark II analog synthesizer in truly EXCELLENT condition. It looks almost new and sounds absolutely incredible. You would be hard-pressed to find one in better shape. All vintage ARP synthesizers are getting harder to find these days… This one was recently checked out by my tech. All faders and key contacts were cleaned and the electrolytic caps were changed. No surprises here!” Link
