“AKAI AX 60 & AKAI S612
ANALOG SYNTH & 12 BIT SAMPLER COMBO INSTRUMENT….

Analog synth that connects to 12 bit sampler and becomes 1 device that is quite unusual and sounds amazing,
A unique synth with some very unique features..
good overall condition for the age of both units all buttons, sliders, pots function as they were intended.

What you get…..

1x Akai ax-60 analog synthesizer
1x Akai s612 rackmount sampler (2ru) 12 bit crunch !
1x connection cable for connecting the s612 to ax-60, a rare find in itself.
1x Akai s612 disk drive (2ru)
1x hardcase for ax60

i “may” have a couple of old quikdisks laying around too that i can throw in and also the manual for the sampler if i can find them, also the overall conditon of all items are used but in good condition with some scratches etc as you would expect from an item of its vintage.

The ax60 and s612 combination are an amazing duo for making crazy sounds…
an analog synth that allows you to shape your samples in the s612 sampler and then run those same samples through the synthesizer section on the synth and either morph your samples more and more through lfo,eg,vcf mod, noise, etc etc etc
or blend those samples with the analog tones that ax60 is making … this is a very out there synth !
(the s612)
Beautiful sounds on the s612 and a very intuitive slider setup on the front panel for live tweaking of sample start stop points etc….
This is without a doubt a rare combo to buy in one lot with the connection cable included,
i`d imagine they would be hard to come by these days,
Sad to see these go and i hope they end up with someone who enjoys them as much as i did.” Link

“Great instrument!

Lightly used

In complete working order

No chips, cracks, or scrapes – cosmetic condition 8.5 out of 10″ Link

“This is an Akai AX60 analog synthesizer, manufactured 1986. Supports MIDI, keyboard splits, 6-voice polyphony, patch storage with sysex bulk dump, arpeggiator with external sync, on-board analog chorus. Serial number 10725-32421.

Unit is in excellent condition, all functions work.

I have replaced the original battery with a modern lithium coin battery, connected by leads that place it away from the circuit board as a preventative measure to avoid any possible future problems with the battery, something which I do to most of my vintage equipment. You can see in the pictures what I mean, and that the PCB is in perfect condition.

There are some small nicks in the plastic on two of the keys, which is also shown in the pictures.” Link

“I am the only owner of this Akai AX60 and purchased it new in 1985. It is seldom used and only has seen one gig. It has been stored under a custom made vynil dust cover in a clean, dry and smoke free environment. It is fully functional and all keys, LEDs and sliders work. The condition is near perfect with no stains, blemishes or scratches on the entire top, sides and back. Only a couple minor scratches in the paint on the steel bottom where it rested on a keyboard stand. I believe all of the factory presets are sill loaded. I’ll include dust cover in the sale. ” Link

“Akai AX60 Vintage Polyphonic Analog Synthesizer. From 1985. Ugly but 100% working. 6 voices of Real Analog VCOs and VCFs. This synth sounds Great! and has many unique feaures such as Filter FM, an Arpeggiator, Keyboard Split, MIDI, and a Stereo Chorus. There are many presets, and the memory seems to be filled with the factory presets.

Despite the poor condition of the control panel, the Keys look and feel great. All keys work. Well built, in a metal housing.

The sliders feel scratchy and sometimes sound scratchy, as usual for a synth this old. One slider cap is missing. You can still move the slider using your thumbnail. You can choose which slider is missing the cap by moving the caps. There are lots of big scratches on the front panel. One of the transparent plastic LED panels is pushed in but not cracked, and all the LEDs work on this panel; See photos. ” Link

“We have no manual for this system so we are not certain how to test all the features. The keys all work, the key velocity is fine. The pitch control on the left changes the pictch, I am not sure what the modulation control is supposed to do. The sliders are working, the sliders and the various buttons should have their contacts cleaned. We selected many of the buttons and the effects changed, some of the buttons had to be depressed a few times before they worked (need to be cleaned). This is being sold with the understanding that it has been partially tested to the best of our ability, there may be some servicing required.” Link

“Here, for your bidding enjoyment we have the Complete Package!

Included in this auction:

1 Akai AX60 Polyphonic Synthesizer

All keys buttons, functions, work. Some buttons will double trigger (you hit them once and they think you hit it twice), but they all work. Also the sliders could use some lubrication, but they too work fine.
All voices work great. Arpeggio and split modes work great! Sampler and Midi interface works great
Cosmetically about 6/10. Three of the slider caps are non-original. One key has a crack that has been re-glued (pictured). Some dings here and there and normal wear and tear.

1 Akai S612 Sampler

Functions great no problems here
Has its own LFO and filter independent of the AX60!

1 Akai MD280 Sampler Disk Drive

Also working great
Use this to load and save samples onto the S612

1 Proprietary Cable to connect individual voice out of the sampler to the sampler input of the AX60

Hard to find cable! Allows you to use the sampler as a second oscillator on the Synthesizer. You can get some either really lush or really wacky sounds this way! Run the samples through the filter, LFO, and envelopes! Or split the keyboard and use samples on one side and the synth on the other. This combo is full of possibilities.

10 Diskettes to load samples onto the sampler

I have not used these disks in a while, but I know most of them work. Also very hard to find. Each disk holds 2 samples.

Not included: Rack case

I have described all the components to the best of my ability. As with all vintage gear, it is sold as-is. Feel free to ask Any questions. Synth and Sampler units will be shipped separately, hence the shipping cost. Ships to USA only. ” Link

PROGRAMMABLE POLYPHONIC SYNTHESIZER.

“I’m the original owner of this synth. I purchased it in the mid 1980′s from a Concord Calif. music store. It was used in my home studio only. Never on the road. It had very minimal use during the mid 80′s because I soon purchased a Yamaha DX7 that took priority and the Akai went into storage.

It’s in excellent working order. I fired it up and found ‘No issues’. No crackling, buzzing, hissing etc. There is a scuff on the left side plastic outer end cap. this has no bearing or issue with playability. The two ‘Split l.e.d. display windows’ droop inward at the bottom. this does not affect playability or performance. I’ve noticed other AX60′s also have this similarity. Probably need to open the keyboard and replace failed double sided tape that holds it in place. Original owners manual included. Sustain pedal not included. ” Link

“I’ve had the synthesiser for about four years, and it has gone seriously unloved. It powers up and makes sound, but it has a few problems, some of the keys create a sound that is quieter than others, it doesn’t seem to respond to midi correctly and the pots are quite crackly. For this reason I am selling as spares and repairs although be assured it does power up.

This is quite a rare synth and I rarely see them pop-up on ebay. If somebody was willing to spend some time fixing this up, I’m sure it would be a beauty! The sounds thst I can get out of it are really thick and warm! It is said to be Akai’s equivalent of the Juno 106. Cosmetically it is in really good condition for its age, the only really noticeable damage is shown in two of the pictures, the jack plug for the expression pedal input has snapped and the tuning knob is missing (although it can be turned with a flat head screwdriver)” Link

“This classic analog synthesizer is in amazing condition and quickly becoming the new “secret weapon.”

Only selling because we also have the VX-90 (rackmount version), both are amazing, but need the space.

This is one of the last true analog polysynths made in the mid-80s. The AX-60 is a programmable six-voice synth with a nice LFO, lowpass VCF filter, envelope sections, and more. Programming this synth is easy by using dedicated sliders, knobs and buttons for its parameters. It also has a useful noise generator and some other cool functions that include auto-tuning, chorus, a multi-mode arpeggiator and a keyboard that can be split into two key-zones, making it somewhat bi-timbral. All six voices can be stacked in unison mode for a powerful, thick lead sound.

The power cord is built in.” Link

“This keyboard works about 75% of the time. Perfect to play around with or get a few takes of an analog keyboard on recordings. Not a good choice for live shows because sometimes it won’t initialize when you turn it on. Could also be good to use for the parts to fix up another ax60. We used this on the road for many years. Great to experiment with to see if you really want to spend some bucks for a newer analog keyboard. Not just a toy!” Link

“Well used condition as seen. unit has scratches and wear as seen. two keys are dammaged, the back one does not spring back well and stays on somewhat. a few keys are hesitant when hit. the Synth functions seem to be all working but Ihave not had it Tested or serviced fully. you will most likely have to go through it. clean it and fix a few keys. ” Link

“Fat analog sounds is what you get! This Keyboard has fantastic analogue sounds and great arpeggios as well. dual zones so you can play two different sounds by splitting the upper and lower have of the keyboard. Very cool sounding chorus as well. I have owned this keyboard since 1991. I only used it in the studio so that is why it is in such great shape! I plugged it in and tested everything all keys buttons and functions as well as the midi send and receive. After playing it for a while I almost had second thoughts about selling it. It sounds so sweet ! Everything checks out with the exception of the number 7 button on the number keys seems to be a bit dodgey. sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t. Really will not affect the usefulness of this great keyboard. Cosmetically it is in great shape for its age. the only real flaw I could find is it is a bit dusty around the seems. You will not be disappointed with its appearance. This old girl looks great and sounds great! So get your creative juices flowing with some new sounds and a synthesizer that is easy to make new sounds with. Shipping will be a bit on the high side because this keyboard has a metal body built to last! So its heavy. ” Link

“AKAI Professional AX-60 Synthesizer. 5 Octave, 61-Note Keyboard. I tested all of the functions and it appears to be in very good working condition. Its in good cosmetic condition with some light wear, one missing knob cap (still works fine), and the bottom piece of one of the keys has a chip but its not on the face and is soely cosmetic. Great Classic Synthesizer. Comes with a copy of the Owners Manual. ” Link

“Akai professional AX60 Synthesizer. Everything works fine. I am no expert but was able to check all the functions that I knew how. Two issues, both are cosmetic. The previous owner leaned it against something and it left marks on the side (see photo) There is a small ding on the back (see photo with arrow) I opened it up to see if the ding effected anything and it did not. Nice machine with tons of features.” Link

“This synthesizer comes just as pictured. This has been tested and seems to be completely functional. There are some cosmetic flaws (burn spots, indicator screens pushed in, tape residue, general use). There is something rattling around inside (like maybe a screw fell out or something). This includes a soft case and is being sold AS-IS. This is a good unit with alot of functions.” Link

“This is an Akai AX 60 six-voice, six-vco analog synthesizer from 1986. I bought it used off ebay about a year ago in the exact same condition it is in now. I’ve barely used it since then and am selling it for something different. The filter on this thing is the real secret weapon; she can wail like a banshee. It can sound extremely heavy in unison mode, especially when sequenced or with the arpeggiator on. It has a small number of surface scratches and a tiny paint chip or two on the edges; you can probably see one in the pictures (that layer of white dust is just remnants of the cloth I used to clean it with). She’s also missing a slider cap for the eg depth level, but you can still manipulate the lever. The only other problem, if it even is one, is switching between eg modes. You may have to either hold down the button, press another button first then the one you want, or it will work perfectly fine the first time you press it. They may just need cleaned underneath. Sound-wise, everything is perfect to my knowledge; I’m not a synth-tech and this is the only analog synth I’ve owned. I have the original manual and the power cord is integrated into the unit” Link

“Akai AX60 in truly EXCELLENT condition. It looks almost new and sounds incredible. You would be hard-pressed to fine one in better shape.
This may be the last TRUE analog synth of the 1980s and is definitely one of the most under-rated synths out there. I say TRUE analog because this baby is voltage controlled. REAL VCOs, none of that glassy-sounding DCO nonsense. ” Link

With any instrument pushing 25 years of age, there are some invetibale age/usage wear: 1) Missing 2 fader caps; 2) Some corrosion on the metal; 3) A chipped “E2″ Key. All of which are purely cosmetic and doesn’t hinder its performnce whatsoever. “This auction is for my superb Akai AX 60 analogue synthesizer. This is a reluctant sale to fund the purchase of another instrument.

The Akai comes with a copy of the owner’s manual. It also has a professional keyboard stand, but I don’t think I can ship this so it’s free for anyone who can collect the keyboard. The shipping quote below does NOT include the stand and the stand won’t come with the keyboard if I have to ship.

The Akai is in absolutely superb cosmetic condition and is full functional. I’m not an expert on synths: I’m a piano player and bought this to use in my latest band; however what I really need is a digital piano so this has to go.” Link

All of which I know nothing about as I am not a musician. I hear that it has really good bass. Comes with the Operator’s Manual. This item has been carefully packed away for the last 15 years. There are no dents, dings, scratches, or broken anything. With the exception of one missing slider knob this unit looks like it just came out of the box. Please look at all photos.
