All the buttons, keys and voices work nicely. The patches are very vintage and analog sounding.
Cosmetically there are two keys that have been similarly chipped underneath and two fader caps are missing. The faders all glide smoothly and are very useful for quick editing as well as fun to play and experiment with. The keys have accumulated some light scratches over the years that is typical of a synthesizer of this age. This AX-60 appears to have been well taken care of and looks excellent in my opinion however you can carefully view the photos to get a good idea and judge for yourself.” Link

“Nice AKAI AX60 Poly synth from the mid 80s. I was given this from a friend in trade for my services. It hasn’t been touched in many years until I recently acquired it. As a bassist I have no use for it. I am selling it to help obtain a bass for my collection at tax time :-/. My keyboard player has tested it and all is well. I have experimented with it a bit myself but it’s way over my head. It comes with rare original tolex plush lined hard shell case and manual that you will probably need. All lights note and functions work and I have heard some familiar sounds from the 80s come out of it. It is in very nice condition thanks to the original case it’s lived in. The only issue I found is cosmetic and minute. If you look at the picture of the right side you may notice where the 2 indicators first from the right are slightly recessed on one end. “This an Akai AX-60 Analog Poly Synthesizer. It is currently broken and could be repaired or used for parts. It is missing its side panels, 2 voice roms, and some chassis hardware. It is a 6 voice synth and has two oscillators that are not functioning (5 and 6). The malfunctioning oscillators do not have their ROM ICs installed. The unit uses Curtis Electronics CEM 3394 voice rom ICs that go for cheap untested but are about $60 tested from winecountrysequential.com. The unit already has 4 of them that function so maybe you could grab this on the cheap and use them to repair another synth. The unit powers up and outputs but obviously not all of the oscillators function properly. All keys operate and it seems that all of the sliders and analog filters do as well. This item is being sold as is for parts and/or repair only. Parts for these units are hard to come by and when they do they are not cheap. Power supply, keys and key bed, pitch shift and mod wheels, display, control board, main board, ICs…etc. These may be the parts you have been looking for to repair your non-working Akai unit! ” Link

I played it recently and it sounds very nice; warm, fat, analog.
Functional condition: Everything seems to be fully functional on this synthesizer. I have another Ax-60 to compare it to and there is no noticeable difference between the two. All voices are smooth and fully functional. I was able to create/edit and save warm and vintage analog tones. The layout makes programming easy.
All the keys trigger nicely. I tested the pitch/mod wheels, arpeggiator, chorus’, all the sliders, Occilator/LFO waveforms, and noise. The cutt-off knob above the mod wheel doesn’t seem to do a lot (it seems to need dialing in) and the VCA envelope release seems to like being up into the 7 range for my preference of a good sustain time but it’s the exact same way on the other AX-60 I compared it to.

“his synth has been severely damage and for all intents and purposes is BROKEN AND DOES NOT WORK. All the electronics appear to work properly, but as you can see in the photos, several keys on both ends are broken and one side panel is missing. These broken keys do pass signal, but several others have broken springs, so they stick. This is about from the lowest key to the lowest Bb. Akai AX 60 Programmable Polyphonic Analog Synthesizer.
This keyboard is an Analog Beast from the 1980′s, It has MIDI In, Out and Thru along with Arpeggio sync/clock input.
It also has a unique sampler input that allows you to plug in the AKAI S612(among others) and run the samples through the filters, VCA and BBD Chorus. This is a CEM based VCO/VCA machine, with some very harsh/wild sounding filters.
Cosmetically this keyboard has seen better days, some of the keys are cracked and one has been glued back together, along with a cigarette burn/melt. There are many scratches and dings on this keyboard.
It is also missing 6 slider caps.
Besides the cosmetic issues I have had no other major problems with the functionality of this Synth, all the voices are working and there are no major issues that i have run into.
The only minor problem i have had was when the keyboard is played in the upper octave, the keys sometimes sticks. This instrument is over 25 years old, and i think the contacts would be
happy if they were cleaned and used.

“Im selling a Used Akai AX60 Analog synth and it appears to be working and functioning properly although I am not a synth expert. The unit is in pretty good condition for being from 1986 it has some scratches, a chipped key and slider, missing slider knob and some of the read outs are a little bit sunken but doesn’t effect the sound and should be an easy fix if you want to open it up. Otherwise the unit’s condition is on par with what you see from keyboards this old, but IT WORKS GREAT and is really fun to edit sounds on. You can get some really FAT bass out of this thing as well as some nice vintage electro pads the filter is really powerful and can make some wild sounds!!! The ax60 and s612 combination are an amazing duo for making crazy sounds…
an analog synth that allows you to shape your samples in the s612 sampler and then run those same samples through the synthesizer section on the synth and either morph your samples more and more through lfo,eg,vcf mod,noise, etc etc etc
or blend those samples with the analog tones that ax60 is making … this is a very out there synth !
