“ARP 2600 synthesizer with ARP 3604P keyboard (serial #’s 26888 & 36888, respectively). Restored & customized with really useful upgrades by Tim Smith of Weyer-Smith Labs/The Audio Clinic in 1995. Do a Web search for “ARP 2600″ for various descriptions of this popular analog synthesizer. The ARP 2600 was used by a wide variety of artists including Genesis (Tony Banks), Edgar Winter (on “Frankenstein”), Weather Report (Joe Zawinul), The Tubes (Michael Cotton) and many others.
After restoration, this unit sounded incredible. Upgrades, customizations & repairs included (see photos):
• replaced VCF wih 4072 filter (22kHz response), and added VCF input coupling modification to eliminated ‘thumping’ sound defect
• added +1/-1 octave switches for each VCO, and Multiples jacks
• added 4 mode envelope time extension modification for both ADSR & AR envelopes (X1-X5 modes)
• did “2600/3604/Oberheim” modification (CV1=standard; CV2=2nd voice)
• added 1/4″ output jacks (above standard mini-jacks)
• modified reverb system for better response and 14 dB less noise
• added saw/square-wave form switches to each oscillator to eliminator patch cords for this common patch
• installed standard (IEC-type) power cable interface
• replaced op-amps with BurrBrown AP2604 audiophile components, and in voltage processor section to fix Lag offset tuning problems
• replaced keyboard interface cable and cleaned jacks & plugs, and repaired, calibrated, timed & tested keyboard
• rescaled & cleaned power supply, pots., sliders, etc., and replaced defective sliders
If desired, Seller will include photocopies of ARP 2600 documentation, brochures, Patch Book, blank patch sheets, etc., that may be Seller’s possession, as well as any digital copies he has of ARP 2600 documentation, including the Service Manual. (NOTE: Original ARP documents as may be pictured in Photo#9 are NOT included, but only black & white COPIES.)
The unit has always been in a climate-controlled, clean, smoke-free, studio environment. Seller has not used it much in the past few years. When it was turned-on recently, it was not working properly. Seller’s technician looked at it briefly, but did not have time to investigate & repair it before he went overseas. Seller can refer Buyer to various qualified technicians in the U.S. or internationally. Hopefully, any required repairs will be straightforward & inexpensive, including possibly power-amps, op-amps, power transistors and/or capacitors. Therefore, Buyer is selling unit “as is.”" Link
“This is an auction for an Arp 3604-P keyboard. Serial #36362. This keyboard is to be used with an Arp 2600 synthesizer, i dont have the 2600 so i’m unable to test this unit. Item is sold as is. Cosmetically the keyboard is in good condtion with no chips or cracks on the keys, one of the keys has a scratch. The knobs and switches seem to turn and move freely but do have some wear from age and storage. The tolex on the case has quite a few blemishes and some rips on the inside as well as on two of the outside corners. Please see pics. I’m not a synth expert so please feel free to ask questions and i’ll do my best to answer them. Again this auction is ONLY for the Arp 3604 keyboard NOT the Arp 2600 synth.” Link
“rare ARP 2600 v2.0 Tonus Logo + 3604P keyboards – vintage 1971-72
Classic Vintage Analog Modular Synthesizer
If you are looking at this then you already know why you want it. This is a fully functioning early grey faced Tonus logo Arp 2600 v2.0 and companion 3604p keyboard .
Please refer to the cms nexus for arp identification info, but this was probably manufactured in 71. It has the short panel height of 14.5 and silkscreen labels on the trim pots. The oscillators are 4027′s and the filter is, of course, a 4012. All of the modules are original.” Link
“Up for auction is this original vintage ARP 3604-P keyboard to be used with the classic ARP 2600 synthesizer. The serial number of this unit is 36714, and we believe it dates from the early 70s, as it does not include the LFO found in later models. It was tested with a 2600 and appears to be fully functional, however likely requires calibration. The connector plug is clean and the cable is free of any damage. The outer tolex case shows signs of wear, but the hasps, hinges, and handle are in solid shape.” Link
“ARP 2600 Synthesizer With ARP Keyboard
This is a Reserve Auction
This item was previously owned by world class drummer BILLY COBHAM and perhaps used by him or his traveling band. These items were put in my company’s storage warehouse by him and I ended up owning them. If you don’t know who he is and why he is famous READ ABOUT HIM HERE.
Known as the master of fusion jazz or jazz funk, he has toured as drummer for the likes of THE GRATEFUL DEAD, MILES DAVIS, CARLOS SANTANA, and too many others to list. He was one of the first to utilize electronic drum controllers and other early electronics, and still tours today.
From what I’ve read the ARP 2600 is a classic piece of equipment still sought after today. Here is a link to learn more about it.
http://www.vintagesynth.com/arp/arp.php
Condition: This was found amongst all of this Billy Cobham stuff. Looks to be in excellent condition. I have no way to test it, so I can’t say if it works or not, only that it was saved and he paid to store it for many, many years. From the 70′s or 80′s. Case shows normal wear and tear for having been shipped around. The label shows it was shipped to BC himself at one time. Keys all appear good, all can be pressed and return. Inside keyboard looks really clean, no corrosion noted. Keyboard has 49 keys (29 white and 20 black). All slides and knobs work smoothly. Comes with power cord and 8 patch cords.
Keyboard is model 3604P, Serial #361563, approx. 36″ long. Synth is Model 2600P, Serial # 261563.” Link

Service manual / Owners manual / original patch book
Patch cable included (2 at the time of this ad, more if we can find them)
This is in great condition for it’s age, there are a number of dings and scrapes in the tolex covering (see pictures).
It has been serviced and tested after coming back – everything seems to work fine now.
There were a couple of scratchy sliders that cleaned up with a spritz of tuner cleaner.
There are 13 missing fader knob and a couple of the fader stems are broken but they still work fine.
This is the synth that made the sound that built ‘Frankenstein’ the classic Edgar Winters tune.” Link

“Here it is, the legendary ARP 2600 grey face in all its beauty.
This is an all original un-modified ARP 2600P with 3604P keyboard.
This model has the pre-lawsuit 4012 moog low pass filter
All sliders are in great shape, clean and work properly
Has original 6pin keyboard connector that is in great shape
Keyboard has new bushings and stays in tune
This ARP has been in a smoke free studio its entire life
Previous owner rarely played this and kept it in tip top shape
Nothing needs to be done to this synth to start recording with it or even playing out live
You will not find another original ARP this clean on ebay
This is an amazingly addictive instrument, it has never let me down. It plays in tune and will consistently surprise you with new sounds. Even the built in speakers have the most amazing character. I prefer to mic them in recording situations just to give things a little extra punch. Its easy to go from funky Herbie Hancock lead sounds to surreal Raymond Scott ‘esqe spacescapes. The 2600 unit and the keyboard have matching serial numbers. I’ve always babied this instrument and kept it clean and dust free. The only thing not included are the front covers for the unit and keyboard, these were most likely put aside and were lost over the years. I have seen these sold online by CMS and other ebay bidders. Also not too hard to fabricate your own replacements.” Link
“For sale, early model Arp 2600 synthesiser with 3604-p keyboard.
Selling as restoration project or spares. Some modules are in working order these include ;Power supply ,Oscillator 1 and 2 ,the sample and hold modulation controls ;output amps and speakers. The main problems are that the filter module is missing from that section (4012) ,the ring mod and osc 3 do not seem to respond, the tolex covering as gone in some area’s of the case’s for both the main synth and the keyboard. There are about 32 slider caps missing from the front panel and one slider stem on the voltage processor section is brocken ,but a spare stem for this will be included as will a copy of the service manual. The condition of the front panel is good overall but has light scratches here and there and a couple of more deeper marks on the left side. The case’s of the main synth and keyboard would need to be repaired and recovered completely ,also the handle for the synth case is missing.
Anyone want to restore one of the most iconic synths of the 1970′s now’s your chance.” Link

“This is the real deal. The “Grey Meanie” w/ early Arp/Tonus logo- You know what that means. This unit is in great condition. The tolex (case) shows the usual signs of wear, but all in all the synth and keyboard are pristine and fully functional. Comes with every cable you’ll need. I’ve only ever used it in the studio.” Link
“Up for auction is…. my awesome Arp 2600. I DON’T want to sell it, but the wifey wants to go to Europe. And I wanna’ go with her!
Synth is in 100% perfect working order. Newer keyboard cable for the 3604 keyboard. Keyboard bushings replaced and it plays like butter. ” Link
“Arp 2600 Modular Analog Synthesizer with 3604P Keyboard. Synth in excellent cosmetic condition and 100% functional. Face is clean and jacks are bright and shiny. Sliders are all intact and function smoothly – not sticky. External case in excellent condition with all hardware intact. I am the second owner of this unit and have owned it since 1995. I found the synth to be “thin” sounding compared to the Moogs and Oberheims I was used to so in 1996 I sent the unit to Phil Cirocco at CMS and had the filter upgraded to the Blue Meanie filter that Arp was sued by Moog over and had to stop using it. That’s when the Arp “mosquito” effect started. With the new filter, the synth then had the full (phat) sound I was more accustomed to. Phil returned the original filter to me and will be included with the synth. I would keep it with the synth for historical purposes, but I’d never go back to that sound. Phil went over the entire synth, cleaned and tuned everything up to factory spec. The unit has seen very little use in my time of ownership and has never left the studio and always had a cover on it to prevent the dust from getting in the sliders. Take note that this model is the transition between the Blue Meanie and the later models – you can tell that from the lack of space on the face both above abd below the controls (serial # 263XX for those that can get a date from the serial number range). The newer units had about 3″ of blank space above and below the controls.
The 3604P keyboard is in very good condition. Control face is clean and keys clean and even, no cracks or cigarette burns like many I’ve seen. The external keyboard case shows more wear than the synth. Tolex isn’t torn, but worn (not frayed) on the edges. 1/2 of one of the latches (the lug part) has been replaced as it is attached with two screws instead of the factory rivets. Functions fine as a latch, though a little bit looser than the original. I would hope nobody planned on taking this on the road, so it shouldn’t be a problem.
The factory power cord and keyboard cable are included, both in fine shape – no breaks or tape.” Link
“Early Grey Faced Arp 2600 for sale. Most likely manufactured in ’72. 14.5 inch panel height with silkscreening around the fine adjustment pots. This Arp has all of the original 4027 oscillators and 4012 filter. Long 17″ original spring reverb. I captured some pictures of the Arp internals. It is in excellent shape both functionally and cosmetically. There is some corrosion to the the case corners, and some expected tolex wear. Has matching serial number 3604p, tuning pot is sometimes a little scratchy. Speakers are replacements from synthfool from about 2 years ago.” Link
“Earlier version of Arp 2600 with 3604P Keyboard. Everything works. Fully serviced by the tech at Main Drag Music in Brooklyn, NY in 2009. He is the best synth tech in New York area. The keyboard cable + connectors are replaced with DIN type for more stability, but you can bring them back to original condition easily. Comes with NOS original connectors and a cable for who wants more authentic look (but less reliable connection.). Tolex has some minor rips. Very clean. Serial number 2600P=#26823 3604P=#36823″ Link

“Up for bid is a ARP 2600 synthesizer with 3604-P keyboard. Unit was recently professionally repaired, cleaned and tuned. Sounds great. All functions are working. Includes new keyboard cable. If you know about these instruments, you know how much fun can be had creating any sound you can imagine. Buyer pays shipping. Units will be packed seperately and very well to protect.
Serial number on base unit is 26519. Control surface is clean and blemish free. Cases are slightly nicked due to 40 years of use. Keyboard case has a painted ID on the lid. ” Link
“In 1973 J.B. Shurtleff went to Massachusetts to obtain an ARP 2600 from the factory. At the time ARPs were going for about $2600, that was real money in those days. JB asked the folks in the factory if there were any used ARPs for sale, they said no, but they knew of one they had sold to a music store in East Newton.
JB jumped in his car and sped over to the music store where he verbally used magic on the storeowner, telling him he would have that thing sitting there another two years collecting dust, so why didn’t he sell it to him for a more affordable price, which he did. The serial number on the keyboard is 11002, so this might be the second grey meanie built and was probably built in 1971. JB’s live ARP performances with his band where they knocked the plates off the wall at Paradise Corners Cafe with much fanfare and spl are retired now, and JB was slightly disappointed that he didn’t reach a level of notoriety similar to Ozzie Osbourne. Just the same, this grey meanie ARP needs the doctor Phil Cirocco of CMS systems to go over it and bring it to factory specs. Being a member of the band, I have agreed to try to sell it for JB, we are selling it “AS IS”.
After acquiring the machine, JB stayed in Massachusetts for a few months. He lived in a stable under a barn where he played with the ARP and where he found a branding iron with his name on it. As you can see in the pictures, he branded the back side of the hardwood machine handle, and the underside of the keyboard handle.
When JB got the machine back to California, after he played his way across the country, he put “lift and rotate” sticker over the logo, and a “rockola” jukebox sticker over the 3604 keyboard logo. In those days mystery pervaded the air around synthesizers. JB did not want lookers on to know what planet this weird sounding machine came from.
Service history, rebuilt ADSR 1975, replaced sliders with broken stems several times. The grey meanies were easily damaged when moving to different locations. Alan Pearlman evidently had a vision the meanie machines would be sitting in a University environment, safe from damage instead of knocking around in small esoteric nightclubs, sometimes moving from state to state.
Sample and hold module replaced, ocillator three module replaced, all modules acquired from CMS. Power supply rebuilt, (new caps, etc.)
All old parts in bags, including the black potted modules that have been replaced are included. The ADSR board is on yellow pigtails (seen on inside picture) All sliders are intact, all black buttons are in a bag, most of the little black caps that cover the trim pots are in a bag.
5 patchcords included, the keyboard attaches to the console at both ends unlike later ARPs and two sets of jones-cinch connector cables are provided, new jones-cinch connectors installed (male and female), original owners manual, original technical manual, original 100 patch book with JB’s personal patches included. Note finger wear on keyboard faceplate below low D, some finger wear on face panel under upper filter slider.
The magic of the 3604 keyboard is the tunable option. The player can tune the keyboard to any key, making it possible to only play the white keys.
If you imagine that Uncle John is playing an ARP keyboard sitting behind the blue display piece, he has his pointer finger ready to play a note (smile).
All oscillators work, pre lawsuit ladder filter works perfectly, machine plays but needs alignment and treatment by Phil Cirocco at CMS
http://www.discretesynthesizers.com/arptronics/arp2600.htm
JB made a big mistake in taking the machine to a guy in California in 2000. He did something to the keyboard that needs looking at. The keys require more pressure than they should, slowing the action. Phil is the best, don’t waste your time elsewhere.” Link
“I had to relist this item. Arp 2600 with original manual, I have owned this for many years of its life. This is the best 2600 ever offered on eBay as both the key board and synth have matching serial numbers. Every thing works perfectly and patch cables, manual, etc are included!” Link
“ARP 2600P And KEYBOARD Model 3604P
There in no AC cable so this unit was not tested. It’s in good looking condition, please check the picture.

This is a final sale, sold as is, and there is no refund.” Link
“You are bidding on an ARP 3604P Keyboard. This Keyboard is usually attached to an ARP2600 synthesizer main cabinet. The case lid is not included.
The Keyboard was manufactured around 1974 and has Serial number 361148
The original tolex has been removed from the case.
Since I do not have an ARP2600 at hand I am not able to check if the Keyboard operates properly. Therefore I cannot provide any info about the technical condition of this unit.
However, the Keys are in very good shape, horizontally well even and without any scratches or dents.” Link
“Keyboardless Arp 2600 owners take notice! Great chance to expand your 2600 with original 3604-P monophonic keyboard with dedicated Arp cable.
The 3604P is in good condition considering its age and use. Keyboard is straight, original knobs in place no extreme scratching on the inside. Original cover included.
Tolex shows some scratches and the metal parts on the outside have some rust. It works 100%
Item sold as is, due to age and vintage status no returns accepted.” Link
“Arp 2600 (#1701) with both beyboards, the 3604P and 3620 (extra oscillator for LFO). Excellent condition. Completely gone over by Phil Cirocco of CMS a few years ago. CMS Blue Meanie filter (the old original that Moog sued them over). I hate to sell but am forced to part with it. Someone give this a good home and use it a lot!” Link
“HERE IS THE KEYBOARD FOR THE 2600 THATS UP NOW. SCIROCCO SAID IT MAY NEED NEW BUSHINGS. HE DIDNT GET INTO IT BECAUSE I USE THE KENTON PRO SOLO AND VARIOUS CONTROLLERS WITH THE 2600. I DONT HAVE THE CABLE TO CONNECT THE KEYBOARD WITH ARP 2600. THEY ARE AVAILABLE. OTHERWISE, THE ACTION IS GOOD ON ALL THE KEYS. IT IS MOST LIKELY JUST FINE, BUT I HAVE NO WAY TO TEST IT. IT DID NOT SUFFER ANY MISUSE OR ABUSE. ITS JUST BEEN TUCKED AWAY UNTIL TODAY.” Link
